Hopefully this releases soon, so we can all enjoy. Looks like we have some pretty cool mods here, are you mods getting this phone?

Can't say for cool, but I'm a mod, so I'll give two cents. ;)

First, I own an Evo, wife has new Evo Shift. The difference between 1st and 2nd generation chips here is phenomenal. Second, I work in the semiconductor industry in R&D, so I know the reasons for that are neither circumstantial nor coincidental.

The little Shift in its stock form is nearly matching my customed kernel setup in speed and smoothness and the battery life is blowing me away - at a 20% reduction in clock speed.

The Thunderbolt is promising all that and more.

And wait until you live with a kickstand - that's no gimmick, that's a breakaway feature that will change how you use a phone. Trust me, you have no idea! :) ;)

I have superior Sprint coverage, and rule one is pick your carrier.

Otherwise, I'd be all over the Thunderbolt like yellow on a lemon.

Trust me, compadres, this phone is going to be well worth the wait x10. ;)

I appreciate the comment, I am glad to hear that about the shift. I still don't know what to think about the kickstand, I have never thought it to be something I would need, but l have never had a phone with it. So I will take your word for it, I am sure youtube will be a lot better with it.

You seem pretty cool to me. ;)

YouTube, TV.com, your favorite radio or a mini presentation of a slideshow or vid, videoconferencing on Skype, night-time desk/alarm clock, speakerphone, or 10 or 20 things I left out - the kickstand totally gets it.

Sounds pretty awesome, except for the fact that the charging port is on the left side so if, like me, you plug your phone in at night, it wont work with the kickstand(at least on its side). Not bashing you at all, I like the idea of the kickstand, it just sucks that they put that port in the wrong place. Streaming video is also a battery killer so it would be nice to have it plugged in while its on its kickstand but that wont work either...

there may be a downside to that, but there also has to be a reason for its position, like a dock that HTC may release

but the kickstand on the Thunderbolt has an advantage over the one found on the EVO, you can use it both on Landscape and in Potrait to stand it up so you can charge it, plus the kickstand is also larger and more stable than the more toothpick sized EVO kickstand.

Wirefly showed a great EVO vs Thunderbolt comparison showing this
even had the bump test to see if it would fall over easily and it was proven that its quite stable even in Portrait orientation

Maybe they placed the usb port there so the can sell some sort of desk charger/stand and when you plug it in on the side, it will charge your phone while you watch videos or use it as a night clock.

On both comments on the improved kickstand and new charging port location - Ja wohl. ;)

PS - HTC knows more about landscape Sense than you may guess, today.

PPS - I probably won't mention it again, but HTC R&D reads our forums.

FWIW: Finally some info on BB website.
thunderbolt - BestBuy

Glad to know im not the only one here searching the bestbuy site for 'thunderbolt' multiple times a day. Did you notice they put some of the accessories up there as well? I didnt see those the last time i checked.

I saw that video, it didn't appear to be as stable as he was saying it is. I don't think I would want it up like that on my night stand. Especially with a chord in the side setting it off balance. And it would be nice if a clock took up the whole screen in landscape.

If they put the port on any other side of the device, we wouldnt need a desktop dock. Theres a kickstand for that.

Yea I am hoping for a dock. That would be cool if it turned it into an alarm clock. I don't have an android device right now so I don't know, but Im sure there is an app for that out there already anyway in case we get just a dock.

Yeah, I ordered the shield for store pick-up. I didn't order the case I like my phone without one.

Clock in night mode not full screen - prevents stuck pixels and that big screen puts out beaucoup lumems with a partial screen in the dead dark of night.

In my opinion, only.

PS - Night clock, desk clock, alarm clock - built-in.

ok cool. good to know. I hope they are reading this, free feedback and plenty of good ideas being thrown around on these forums.

Well thats interesting to know, hopefully they hear our plight for some good accessories.

I managed to find a dock there releasing in March for the Desire HD for use in the car that automatically goes into car mode when plugged in (no magnet involved, just a special USB cable) that has a built in charging port, no desktop dock though
only problem with the stuff for Desire HD vs Thunderbolt is, the ports are on different sides, the Desire HD has it on the bottom with the 3.5mm stereo jack, and Thunderbolt on the side... those lucky Inspire 4G bums on AT&T can use the same accessories...

hopefully we get good ones like i said, the phone has a great size screen for a good car dock

I bought a cheapo cradle that fits the Desire HD/EVO 4G/HD2 off of eBay for $5 even has a hole for the camera to make some car vids :P

Dear HTC

Please release the HTC Thunderbolt with great accessory support. The charging port on the side can be forgiven if we can get a good desktop dock to make up for the unable to be used kickstand while charging design flaw.

Sinecerly,

Your HTC fans :)

The bigger screen with Google Nav is like nothing else.

Seeing that cloverleaf turn in the upper left at the merest glance is mondo relaxing in strange traffic.

HTC's newest version of Sense has Premium navigation that integrates into Google Navigation or you can use there TOM TOM premium maps navigation.

That includes the new maps download for instant view (no waiting time) and better nav voices (Download more on HTC Hub) than the robotic ones on Google Nav.

I got to try out the premium nav without the TOM TOM part on the Droid Incredible when they ported over the HD/Z rom and its by far the best GPS nav on Android so far, it even includes POI's and POI search and saved addresses. Basically its a Premium GPS and Premium Phone and since Thunderbolt has Sense 2.0, it will have it too :)

Just found this new sense simulator on HTC's website

The Desire HD link above shows what all the new Sense has in store for us future ThunderBolt owners :)

I suggest you guys check it out, it shows off the new Navigation thats built into Sense 2.0

hmm, now that i see this, it can be shared as Stories on facebook, i wonder if that HTC ThunderBolt video that was found on YouTube a few days ago that shows off the features is what HTC plans to put on the website to show off the ThunderBolt's features and more as a simulator?

I'm turning in for the night, i got work in a couple of hours . . . :(

Dont be surprised if those features are not included in the US version of sense. I have the inspire 4G and if thunderbolt comes out I will get that, but inspire 4G is suppose to be the first phone with the new sense that is also suppose to be featured on Thunderbolt. I am missing both of those features that you mentioned above.

Eh, I will be surprised since it was announced at CES on there features video to include HTC locations (the Navigation app)

if not, we have Root that can easily install it :P

But as far as it goes right now, its supposed to be on the ThunderBolt
plus the version of Sense that the ThunderBolt has is also the first version to get Skype integration, the Desire HD doesn't have that

but anywho, Locations for the US is Tom Tom maps navigation, in the UK its slightly different, but both will have Locations and POI's

its only because the Inspire is on AT&T that its gimped, like all the android phones that can't load apps outside of marketplace unless its rooted
