FM Transmitter for playing Music

A while back I had an iPod with an FM transmitter module. Is there an app for android that can simulate this? I'm assuming since the phone can transmit over radio frequencies, it can broadcast over an FM channel.

If no app exists, is this something that I would be able to write (I'm a programmer)? Does the Android platform allow for this?
 
FM Transmitter broadcasting is a hardware feature, which is found mostly in Nokia phones. The most you can get is to have an application that assists you in selecting FM frequency, like FM Transmitter Helper.

That same module is there for all of the Apple line.

For the Android phone (With no Apple port, guaranteed to exist on every platform), the best you can do is something along these lines:
fm car transmitter - Google Search

Or, if you car has bluetooth stereo capability, it should work as well.

If your car has an Aux-in, then a simple stereo dubbing cable gets you there.

Yes.

However, PSkeptic has mentioned the possibility of using bluetooth and AUX connectivity. These are not FM transmissions, but will transfer audio from the phone to car loudspeakers.
 
I use an FM transmitter. Works great. I think I got it pretty cheap from CellPhoneShop.net, which is powered by the lighter.

You can also purchase the battery-powered ones, like Jupiter Jack (I have this, too).

Both work well.
