Help Saving Google Maps to Phone

Lurker
I just got my Samsung Vibrant (Bell, Canada) and love it. I'm curious though when I use the google turn by turn navigation am I using a lot of data to load the maps if I'm driving a long distance?

I also would like to know if I'm eating up data to navigate, is their a way to download the Canada or North America maps onto the phone/sd card ? This way it won't use data to load the maps.

Thanks in advance!

Google navigation downloads the maps as you are driving along, so uses data to do this.
As far as I know you cant download the maps and store them on your phone.
You could buy Copilot live 8 from the market, here in the UK it only costs

The newest Google Map has cache functionality. If you have a wifi connection at home, go to navigation and set up the path. That will load the entire path into the cache (Not sure if there's a limit on how far you can go though).
