Missing "Gmail Storage" App

I have been unable to sync my gmail account all of a sudden on my HTC Incredible. It's set up as IMAP, and has worked fine for several months. Now, it won't sync manually or automatically.

Several web sites say to go to Settings, Applications, and do 2 things. First, clear the data in the Gmail Storage app. Second, clear the cache on the Gmail app.

BUT ... I don't seem to have a Gmail Storage app, which is weird. I have Contacts Storage, Calendar Storage, etc ... but no Gmail Storage.

Where did it go?!?!

Thanks

I don't believe there is a gMail Storage app; I've never seen it.

What do you mean when you say that gMail won't sync? Are you not getting mail on your phone? Or are deletions not syncing?

You don't mention which app you are using to read gMail; if it's the stock gMail app, you should go to Settings->Accounts & Sync->Google and make sure that Sync GMail is selected, and that no error message is displayed. You can sync it manually to see what happens.

If you are using another app with which to read gMail (as you might be, because you have it set up as IMAP), let us know.

hope this helps

It's not an app you can start like a normal app ... I think it's a background app. If you go to Settings-->Applications-->Manage Applications, there are "Storage" apps listed with several actual apps. For example, there is a Calendar Storage app (background) along with the Calendar app (which you can start).

I set my gmail to sync/refresh manually. So when I check my gmail, I manually refresh to see the new mail. Now, when I touch "Refresh", nothing happens. In addition, if I change my sync settings to auto, still nothing happens. When I cleared all my gmail data (so there is no longer any emails on my phone), I can't download any mail, new or old, manually or automatically.

I'm using the Gmail app ... not the stock Mail app, but I believe this is a "stock" Gmail app. If you go to Market, you can download/update it ... but I think it's the "official" Google Gmail app.

If I go to Settings-->Accounts & Sync-->Google and click on "Sync Gmail", nothing happens.

You should be using the GMail app, not the Mail app with imap. Thats why you dont have Gmail Storage.

Yep, using Gmail app and had been using it for about 8 months without any issues. I had it set to not automatically sync/refresh ... so whenever I opened the Gmail app, I would click Menu-->Refresh to download any new emails.

Thanks for the help ... hope that gives you guys some leads ...

Yes, I know, that's where I looked. I've never seen a gMail Storage.

If I were you, I'd uninstall all the gMail updates, reboot your phone, try gMail again to see if it works. If it does, then reinstall the latest update from the market to see if it still works.

Since it was working once, I'll spare the basic questions.

If you can't get it working, you might try installing K-9 (free in the Market) and using it to make sure that you can receive gMail on your phone.

Hope you get it all working soon!

Yep, tried all that (and a few other things) ... nothing.

After uninstalling all updates, I can't uninstall the factory version altogether ...? Is there any way to reinstall the base factory version?

Good idea. Tried it and it worked fine. K-9 is all IMAP, right? So that means it must be the Gmail app itself ...

Do you use K-9 by default anyway? I guess that's one option ... but would be nice to figure out what on earth is the matter with the Gmail app ...

Thanks for all the help.

The gMail app lives in ROM, so unless you are rooted...

I do use K-9 by default for all my mail. K-9 uses IMAP for gMail, but it also does POP3 and Exchange (I've never used it for exchange).

There are a couple of disadvantages to using K-9 for gMail; if you use labels a lot, there's no way to set labels (that I've discovered) using K-9. Also, you lose the threading of conversations (which is a plus for me, but some people love the threading).

I do the labeling on my computer, so that isn't a problem for me; just thought I'd point it out.

Glad you are at least able to get your gMails now :)

Ugh. So whaddya do when it's broken? It must be some accessory file that's broken then ... something fixable ...

Ah right, that's why I stopped using it way back. I don't use labels, but I do like the threading ...

Thanks ... Anyone else have any thoughts?
