Sync Outlook Calendar to Wildfire...

...Without installing any software on my PC!

Is this at all possible? I have a work Laptop and due to IT policy cannot install any unauthorised software on it. I have Nokia PC Suite installed as my work issued phone was a nokia brick but I've put the sim into my wilfire so that I can use that instead.

Work will not install HTC Sync or Google Calendar Sync so I'm kinda stuck!

There is a Broadcom bluetooth utility on the lappy which I tried to use but I got the message "Service Information Synchronisation is not found on device HTC Wildfire" I've not been able to find out anything about this error.

What are my options? DO I have any?

Hi, if you say that you cannot install any third part software (even HTC sync) I'm afraid you won't be able to sync Outlook with Android. In order to sync your Outlook and Android directly, without any apps, I guess the sync process must be initiated from the Outlook and Android must be connected to it also. Are there any sync options for connected devices in Outlook (I never used it before so I'm not sure)?

Anyway, you have to connect your Android and Outlook in any way in order to sync them.

One more option is to consider a possibility to sync your Outlook Calendar with Google calendar, in such case once you've synced your Outlook and Google, calendar entries will be synced with Android at once (if autosync option is enabled in your Google account). So, if you have Google account, you can check its calendars settings.

HTH!

thanks that's kinda what I thought :(

What is the "Service Information synchronisation" thing? Is that something that can be installed in android?
The Blutooth utility has a calendar sync thingy in it which I can set to Sync from Outlook and then I get this error message, so If i could get the service info sync thing installed on my phone It should work....

Hi, I do not know what is "Service Information synchronisation"is, tried to Google about it but didn't find any clue.

Maybe you need to contact HTC and ask them about this problem? I think they will reply within a day, so you won't loose anything asking them as it seems like we are the only people in this thread:)

I don't think you can keep things synchronised as easily as you'd like unless you install some SW on your PC (I use MyPhoneExplorer to keep Outlook and my Desire HD synced up). But you can use Nokia's PC Suite to export its calendar to a csv file. You could plug your Nokia in, sync the calendar with PC Suite (you *may* be able to get away with doing it without a SIM card) then export the calendar to a csv file. There are various apps out there to import such files to the Android calendar ... iCal Import/Export - Android ..... for one (no idea how good it is, just found it via Google).

Does that work for you?

Dave

seems like this app imports & exports calendars only - but foes it sync them with Outlook? Anyway, dvhttn is right - syncing data is not an easy task if you cannot install any software for this.

@ trikemailer -

Did you try to sync via Google account?

It doesn't have to be initiated from Outlook but there does need to be some software on the Outlook side to handle syncing. Outlook doesn't sync to a device on its own.

Manually export and import to/from Outlook as suggested above.

Did you try to sync via Google account?

Yes. I don't have the required authority to install Google Sync

I can do the manual export thing but it's a pain to do repeatedly. I'm too used to my old N95 syncing automatically everytime I walked into the office!

I've tred googling the error message I got from the Windows Bluetooth thing but with no luck. It seems like it's only me that gets it!

Mayhbe I should just ditch the wildfire and go back to a Nokia but I don't like to give in!

I know you said your company won't allow you to install SW but have you tried talking to a "friendly" face in the IT dept? I've worked for a couple of companies that had policies like these and in both I've managed to install "non-corporate" SW. Nothing dodgy obviously, just productivity type tools like you're after.

If you manage to do it try MyPhoneExplorer as it works a lot better than HTC Sync.

Yeah this can be the only solution. Just explain that you are installing SW which will help you working more efficient and so on. After all, you are installing sync tool, not games!
