Cant play some videos...help

MyNamesTooLong

Android Expert
So in an effort to make all my videos universal(ps3/phones/psp) I have them all in h264 mp4 format...problem is some will play and some won't on the native player. Should I dl another video player, or am I missing something.

Most likely your videos have different characteristics (resolution, encoding complexity, etc..), which makes them difficult to play.
An easy fix can be if you simply try another video player - try Vplayer from Market.

I've tried a bunch from the market including vplayer...they either don't play the ones I am having trouble with or play them back slow with out of sync or no audio

What phone are you using?
Try to convert one of the problematic videos to H264/MP4 again, but don't use a higher resolution than that of your phone display. Also, which converter are you using, and which settings?

Right now a mytouch slide. Most the videos I have I leave the way I got them and make sure to get them as h264/mp4...weird issue about the screen resolution. MT3G slide has a 480x320 screen resolution, which the movies that work have dimensions that fall into those sizes, and most of the ones that dont are larger. The exception is one with the dimensions of 640x384 that plays perfectly? As far as converters I am trying to find a good free one preferably for mac, but windows would work.

How do I convert the videos to H264/MP4 format?

Well the phone should be able to play any resolution, as long as it's the right codec. However, anything larger than 1280x720 will have a hard time playing, as the processor cant keep up with that amount of data.

I doubt his phone (MT3G Slide) can play anything in 720p resolution, even if it is encoded in simple MPEG4 SP. That phone has a low processing power with its ARM 11 CPU...
