What K9, Universal Inbox seem to have missed from Blackberry

Finally took the leap after returning iPhone after 1 day and got Atrix. How many years have Apple and Google had to copy Blackberry email?

All I want is...one button to get to ALL my emails and text messages. Once I get there, I want to be able to send through any of the accounts, search, see sent as well as received. Well, just like Blackberry.

After a lot of tweaking and app downloads, I got *close* to the bar that Blackberry sets on email/text integration...but not quite there. Here is what I haven't found - know where I can find?

1. Universal Inbox is missing:
a. SEARCH! How can you consolidate all my email accounts and text messages and not let me SEARCH them????
b. SENT ITEMS: why can't I see what I sent along with what I received? On BB, would always confirm what I sent, forward to others, etc.
c. GESTURES: why can't I zoom?
d. COLOR CODING BY ACCOUNT: how do I tell which email came from which account in the list view?
e. CHOOSE SENDING ACCOUNT ON REPLY: I can choose which account to use when creating a new email, but can't switch accounts when replying

2. K9 is missing:
a. TEXT MESSAGES
b. SENT MESSAGES in Unified view
c. MANUAL REFRESH: polls on intervals, but can't easily initiate manual poll off-schedule.
(but it is closer overall)

3. GMAIL is missing:
a. TEXT MESSAGES
b. EXCHANGE (WebDAV or other) COLLECTION
c. GESTURES: please let me zoom!

(NEXT: calendar and contacts...not as bad as email)

Sounds more like that you need to familiarise yourself with K-9 email first...

I can Pinch & zoom (Gestures) in K-9 which also handles my Gmail.

I have each account colour coded throughout in K-9

I can choose which account to send from on Reply in K-9.

I can Check Mail (Manual Refresh) with 3 key presses from Unified Inbox on K-9.
.
Why can't you?

I, and a lot of others I suspect, prefer to keep our texts and emails seperate and I use Handcent for the former.

Zero. BB email requires a lot of backend (BIS, BES, etc) and specialized APN access. Familiar with RIM outages? There's a good reason why Apple and Google don't have such outages. If you really want BB email then use a BB. Just be aware that the BB approach is a double-edged sword. It has its pros and cons -- just like any option.

These are not text messaging apps. They're not missing anything. If you want universal inbox apps then look at universal inbox apps.
