YouMail....a must have app!!

I just upgraded my phone so now I have room for all of these fun, cool apps. My new favorite...YouMail Visual Voicemail. I tried Google Voice but either I'm an idiot or it's just not very user-friendly. This is very similar but I find it MUCH easier to use. I can assign one voicemail greeting to my friends, another to my coworkers ("Sorry, I'm working & I can't talk on the phone while I'm working so leave a message & I'll get back to you." haha!!). I'm having so much fun just with the pre-recorded greetings. It's still new to me so I'm not sure how I'll like it in another week or so but right now it's providing my friends & I with lots of entertainment. :D

I'm not sure they will appreciate your custom voicemail messages wasting their precious calling minutes, and time in general, while they can't even get you on the phone... I certainly wouldn't!

Make your voicemail messages as short as possible so as not to waste others' phone minutes, and time in general. If they managed to finish elementary school I'm sure they will understand that you can't answer their call for a good reason (like: you're in the shower, or driving, or in a meeting, or feeding the baby, etc.). What precisely that reason is in that particular instant is hardly relevant. What IS relevant is that they know they reached the correct phone number and can leave a message if they are so inclined.

It will also save you a lot of time recording, programming, and managing it all...

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on it.
I like to add a touch of color & personalization to my life but I understand not everyone shares the same sentiments. :)

Great! I applaud individualism! But when it imposes/encroaches on others' space, time, or interests that individualism is at the expense of those others. Then your individualism is going too far.

Think about the consequences for others of your adding "a touch of color & personalization to [your] life".

I think you're being a bit ridiculous JLang. If you read his voicemail customization messages it's hardly longer then any other of my friends' voicemails currently. Also, if you can't afford 3 seconds of your time at that instant, then why the heck would you be on the phone at that moment??

Nice find Whiskeypawz, I'll check it out :) I've always liked non-bland voicemail messages. Apparently some people don't, ahem.

I strongly disagree with you, and think you are being petty and asinine.

..

In fact, I appreciate it, especially when it comes to business contacts, if they specify on their voicemails. "I'm on vacation," or "I'm in a meeting." The two are very different in terms of when I could expect a response, and whether or not I should try to get my problem solved through another person.

I think folks will be able to make it despite the scourge of customization... LOL!

OP, I love YouMail. Wished it worked with Google Voice.

Agree. In a business setting, people don't appreciate having their time wasted. It is impolite not to consider others.

That said, if the OP is 16 years old, working at McDonald's, and just got a new phone, I don't think any of his co-workers will fall into that "don't have time to waste" demographic.

Most apps have their place. This one has a function that could be used appropriately in the right time and place. It's not for you, and it's not for me - but that's just my personal preference.

Is there a limit to how many custom messages that could be recorded? Could I theoretically record a personalized vm message for every contact in my phone?

I believe it is limitless.

As a business tool, I think this can be a positive.

As I said, I like the service, but since I use GV, I had to drop it.

I love Youmail. It's one of the first apps I got when I first got an android phone about a year ago. You can customize the greeting for each contact if you want to. I have the same one for all though. And it isn't any longer than any other 'normal' greeting. You can make it as short as you want. Thumbs Up for Youmail.
