using gps

is it right that htc desire can not use gps?
I am trying to write a location based s/w that use gps.
For that , I try to buy an htc phone.
but the seller said that gps is not accessible in htc mobile phones.
Do we need to install some s/w to use gps?

No. You might want to clarify with the seller whether the claim is that GPS doesn't work on any HTC phone (not true) or that GPS doesn't work on this particular phone for some reason (GPS receiver faulty, etc).
