Auto Wifi Enabler??

In an effort to conserve battery life, which is horrible on this phone, it was advised to try to use Wifi vs. 3G. I have a Droid Incredible running 2.2 UNROOTED.

I do have a wireless router at home and was wondering if there is an App that could automatically switch on the Wifi on my Incredible when it detects a Wifi Network such as when I get home and automatically switches off when the phone detects no network when I leave.

Don't know if an app like this exists (would be a pretty good app to have), if not is there any recommendations besides manually switching it back and forth.

I'm trying to do whatever I can to conserve battery life, believe me I've tried almost everything, even asked Verizon for a replacement phone as they said my battery life/charge time should be better than it is... I dunno.....

Thanks in advance...

The stock OS would probably automatically connect you to your wifi after you have connected it the first time (the phone should remember each network you connect to). My much cheaper LG Shine Plus with 2.1 automatically connects me to my home or office wifi as soon as I turn on the phone.

Hey Android>Apple did Juice Defender really increase your battery life?? I did try that quite a while back but didn't notice much at all. Just kept running but didnt see much benefit. Wasn't all that user friendly, as you kind of suggested.

It did help mine it all depends on how you set it up. If used right, it seems to help a lot. There are forum posts about how best to set it up.

Can't really have the wifi turn off when it looses the home connection and then turn back on when you get back to it. It would be off, so it wouldn't be able to tell you were back in range. I think you can use Tasker though to set locations, where when it's in a certain place, it turns on wifi, and when you leave that space, it will turn the wifi off. But I think this needs to use GPS locations, and having the GPS sampling so it knows when to turn wifi on and off would probably negate any battery savings you would see from having he wifi off. But I've never used Tasker myself, maybe it can be set to use the cellular network location instead of GPS, that would be perfect.

Oh, and get the extended battery for your DInc. My firend has a DInc running 2.2 unrooted, just like you, and with the extended battery, he gets about the same life as I do with my Droid X, he makes it through the day on a single charge just fine.
