Gmail not pushing email anymore?

Hi,

I am noticing a really strange issue with Gmail recently on my Nexus S. WHen I first got the phone, Gmail was pushing perfectly.

Now, it's not pushing AT ALL. Over WiFi or 3G. All the settings look intact and unchanged from when it was working. I thought it might have been an application blocking the delivery, so I removed all apps that I had installed during this time frame, but no luck!

Is this a known issue, or something more distinct with my phone/model?

Thanks,

N

If you go to your account settings, is gmail syncing turned on?

I had a similiar issue recently and found out that somehow the check box to push email was unchecked. I checked it and it fixed my problem. Oddly enough I ran into the same issue on two different devices.

if you are using the power widget, its pretty easy to accidently turn off the sync button. give it a check, most likely problem

I'm not using the power widget and gmail's push option is checked and auto-sync is also checked.

It's so frickin frustrating!!!

i was having the same problem - Gmail stopped automatically PUSHING post-Froyo-update on BOTH of my Gmail accounts. the solution that worked for me is a HARD RESET. ERASE/WIPE your Android phone clean and then manually reinstall everything one by one. this is the only thing that permanently fixed the post-Froyo lack of Gmail PUSH for me. the Gmail clear cache data works but ONLY TEMPORARILY (~24 hours). it's now been 6+ weeks after my hard reset and both of my Gmail accounts now PUSH sync flawlessly. my guess is that when you update the OS version you need to start clean on the Gmail sync and the only way to do this is a HARD RESET.

A simpler fix than wipe is to change to over to K9 mail. It's free and offers better functionality than stock gmail app.

hi all
yes i find email pushing can appear to stop sometimes - i use k9 so that does polling too - or manual check

i had that once after i manually killed google talk. then i turned the unit off and and on, google talk come back on and so did the email push. I am not sure if thats it but that worked for me

I would clear your cache and your data for both the Gmail and Gmail Storage applications, then reboot the phone. Everything should sync up just fine.

Google has a support page for it:

Problems with sync - Google Mobile Help

It lists, in order, steps to take. The last step is to clear your cache and data. I have had to do this a couple of times since moving to Android in November of 2009.

Hope that helps you out!

Glad someone is having the same symptoms as me! Although I didn't upgrade from Froyo.. I updated from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 (manually, not OTA) and have since noticed this issue.

I've tried clearing my Gmails cache and data and it solves the problem for a day or 2 (can't remember exactly how long), but it's definitely very temporary.

I was scared a hard rest would be the answer :(.. Bloody Android!!

Done all those steps, multiple times, to no avail. But thanks anyway!
