Battery problems, quirks and issues: Read first.

Draining it fully and recharging it fully wont really make much of a difference in the end with respect to the battery meter...
Today, my phone lasted less than 12hrs, mostly on standby. My wife's phone lasted 6hrs on standby.

Both phones were discharged fully three times and then charged. This doesn't seem to work. We're both returning the phones. I'm not going to spend my time calling Sprint or Samsung and telling them about a problem they don't care about, they should use GOOGLE to find out what's wrong with their products.

One thing I like most about Samsung Momenet is its slide out keyboard. I had HTC Hero and it was dialing out wrong numbers, mistakes in text messages, orientation problem. I returned it as it has no slide out keyboard. On HTC Hero there is no way to decrease the sensitivity of the little touch buttons. It may be good for people with small fingers and to me it was a nuisance. Samsung has big virtual buttons to dial out and one can use slide out keyboard for dialing and texting as well.

If you use some utility program to close all unnecessary background running programs, the battery lasts longer. I have a lot of fancy programs on my phone. These automatic application terminator programs are available in the google market. It's not like in Windows that one has an option to close the program after use and it frees up memeory allocation and battery use. There is no option in this little Linux kernal called Android to close a program after use. For example, I noticed once that Sprint TV was on, Camera was on when I was checking my Voice mail. I had to go to Manage Application to close it before I had download the automatic application terminatiion utility.

I like Samsung Momenet compared to HTC Hero and itouch ;) . It gives me peace of mind when I do banking transactions and other important DTMF controlled remote transactions.

If Samsung gives a free battery to all Samung Moment customers that has a complete protection to EHF and logetivity of charge retention, this phone would be very popular. I like it with the way I solved the problem.

About Google Nexus, I presume, it is an HTC phone. Thinking about HTC drives me crazy because of the nuisance I had.

When is Sprint or Google going to release Android update with close application option?

I had a program to close all background applications, so nothing was running, and I was checking on it all the time.

And the phone should last at LEAST 12 hrs on STANDBY. It can't even do that.

The battery ruined the phone, and the second thing I hate is the inability or choice of removing applications such as NFL Live, NASCAR, Amazon MP3 etc, some of that stuff automatically ran on my phone at times, without me choosing so.

The problem with this Linux based operating system (Android) is that, it does not have an option in the Main menu to close programs after use. Just like in Windows, every application made from the Google Android library must have a close or exit option. Some new application programs added this option but there are a whole lot of them already written with no option to exit it. Programmers could come up with an update or Samsung could bring a firmware update to close or exit programs after use.

I also think that making a good sheilding for the battery from EHF from satellite based radiation may improve its longetivity. Some satellites may emit radiation as high as 300 Ghz  which can mess up a lot of things including batteries.

After conditioning the battery 2 nights ago, my Moment's battery now seems holding the charge longer now. It has been over 26 hrs since I charged it, battery level is still at 70% as of now with very little use of it (standby mode). During the 26 hrs period, about 10 hours the phone was in my office where I don't get any cell or wifi signals at all.

Here was what I did...

1. Opened all the phone's features...gps, bluetooth, music, youtube, 100% brightness, etc.until it used up the battery and turned itself off.
2. After that, pressed the three buttons to turn on the self test. Left it there until the phone turned off again.
3. Took the battery out to reset the phone (no sure if this step made the difference).
4. Charged the phone (with the phone off) overnight.
5. Turned on the phone next morning, the battery meter said it was at 80% after a few min.
6. Charged it again with the phone turned on for about half hour more and the battery meter indicated at 100%.

The battery level was at 100% for a few hours after that (which I did not get that before the conditioning). Later, used it for a few messages and the battery level dropped to 80% and stayed there for about 5 or more hours and then dropped to 70%. Since then, it is still holding at 70% as I report here.

I was basically testing it in standby mode. Will report back with heavy usage later.

Hope this help.

My phone has lasted over 67 hrs on standby with very light use. For the past week, I've been noticing that after 30-40 hrs, i still have about 50% charge left. I havent been able to completely drain my battery after those long periods because when it does get down to 30% left, I usually will have to leave to go somewhere in a few hours, so I just recharge it right then & there, with the phone On!

I've only tried to do the reconditioning three times i think,

One thing I think may help is if u guys turn off a setting "prevent phone from sleeping while charge" setting. I cant recall where it is, and it is kind of hard to locate, but once you do, i think that will help BIG TIME!!

do you mean the "screen will never sleep while charging" option?

what difference would that make?

Yes, thats what I mean. Im a COMPLETE TOTAL NOOB, so IDK!

But what I think is, if your screen is awake, it prevents the phone from sleeping, and since the phone isnt sleeping, then the battery meter will be off (which it already is) and it may prevent from getting a good solid charge!

It has been 2 hrs on standby and my phone says 100% on the screen (spare parts) and in TESTMODE.

Off topic, does anyone know why the phone doesnt boot/completely BLANK after you come out of test mode? The only way i can get it do anything is pull the battery out?

Is that normal? (sorry, dont have time to browse a 1000+ threads right now)

so are you saying that the phone SHOULD sleep when charging or SHOULDN'T? and what does the sleeping/battery meter and solid charge have to do with one another?

just want you to explain a bit more thats all...

and no, no idea on your other questions.

I was on the phone talking with some Sprint employee (not technical dept) earlier, and she said that this phone has so many app and stuff running, it is a good idea to take the battery out every so often to clear the memory...just like re-booting your pc once a while.

Yes, I have to take out the battery too after the phone turned itself off from self testing mode. Otherwise, it won't charge.

I think (dont have any evidence) that the phone should sleep or be completely off when you charge it to get a better charge. it wont hurt for it to be on, i just think its better that way tho.

wut does sleeping/bater meter/solid charge have to do with one another?

well, imagine u have a jug of water. and it takes 1 gallon to fill that jug. if your jug is still, u can top it off very nicely. if you are running, jumping, flipping everything else but being being still, its going to be difficult to top that jug off.

so while the phone is awake, it is consuming energy as u are trying to charge it, from all the complaints i've seen, it seems as if it is using almost the same amount of power that it takes to charge it! so charging, while the phone is draining will make it very difficult to get a good solid charge, and altho the meter is already wrong, it will give even a poorer reading than if it wasnt busy monitoring everything else.

remember, IM A NOOB! But then again, maybe we should check with numus whenever his tolerance is more able to handle our awsum noobness! Seriously tho, i do remember him saying, majority of the times, there is really nothing wrong with our batteries, its just the readings that are inaccurate. So im thinking, if the readings are inaccurate, then its very possible for the MOMENT to tell us that its FULL falsely (and it really be barely an 80% charge, or lower). I know that sounds maybe extreme, but then again, it does say 15% for about 2 hours!

Did you forget to ask her for her number? (personal moment's) lol

I actually did have her name, ID and # and she was sweet to apply a $200 statement credit for our 4 new phones. She was from account cancel dept. We were trying to cancel our phones last week and she talked me to stay with Sprint and gave us the credit. She delivered the good news this morning that the $200 statement credit will be applied in 2 $100 monthly credit. You should try your luck with one of them in the cancel dept. if your phone is within the no cancel charge 30-day grace period.:)

By the way, my phone's battery is now at 60% level after about 33 hours at stand by with a couple phone calls and text messages.

None of the jug part is tru.. it uses a stepped charge voltage that is always greater then the load voltage so it is always charging even if you are running 100% load.. It charges the same off or on..

Full is based upon maximum voltage which i might have changed (i used the behold II voltage profile for the same battery)... There is a problem with the stock kernel and charging tho since the stepped charge is based upon current percentage of the battery that is being reported, and the reporting variables were actually off... Because of this inaccuracy with the reporting levels there isa chance the voltage that the power supply was regulating to charge was below actual load...

Not been intentionally ignoring you guys.. just been busy setting up the new development site and grad school just started this week :(

What on Earth will we do without you! Im glad you confirmed that because I reallly hated the idea of my phone being completely off (most times) just to charge it, and missing calls, txt, or wutever! lol.

Once again thanks buddy!

Ya it is annoying that because of Ming kim (or wahtever the hell their name was.. i sent them an e-mail and they never responded) did a crappy job converting a linux module from PALMTX (yes palm... tx.. that is where the module came from) that it effected so much of the power system...

Does anyone else notice a difference in Battery life from day to day? I noticed the other day my battery died in about 7.5 hours. All i did was send about 40 text messages and browsed the internet for 5 minutes. thent he next day my phone lasted over 12 hours doing the exact same thing and i was in good cell reception both days.

For me it seems like my battery might be good one day then bad the next. I hope an update will fix this

More then likely you are going either in or out of service. or going into a low service area.. the phone juices up the power too the radio chip when in lower signal (or no signal) in an attempt to help boost the signal.. this will cause the battery to drain faster

Thanks. Maybe you can help me out i tried to download the files for the kernel and when i save them to my desktop and i click on the one i unzip it just say can not find file or something and has 2 options. 1 being automatically look online. 2. manually look for it.

I cant get it to work Do you think you could PM me and try and help me out thanks.

First.. DO NOT DECOMPRESS THE TARBALL (.tar)... leave it as a .tar file...
I really dont hav that much time to walk you through.. i am trying to manage the new forum.. but this shosuld possibly help you
How-To: Flash to ZE* & back to Stock Kernel/Remove System Apps

I downloaded two good programs, namely, "Astro" and "Advanced Task killer" from the Google Market. With "Astro" I was able to remove traces of uninstalled poorly written programs(one needs to be careful not to delete essential programs) and using "Advanced Task Killer" I terminated all those unnecessary programs running in the backgrond. This improved the battery life.

I still believe that by having more metal shielding for the battery to protect from EHF radiation could improve battery life.

I have a printer with a silver color and I keep part of my phone overnight under the front projected area. The battery lasted at least 24 hours.:)

I still charge with " Battery Graph" which will not run in the background after charging.

Hi everyone, I'm just curious of how long your battery last when it gets to the "less than 15% "mark? I have yet to kill my battery, the closests I get is the red 5% warning and screen diming with the keyboard light finally going out. The only reason I haven't completely had it shut down on me is because I need to charge it for the next day.
