Help Gingerbread 2.3: This version of the device cannot be updated

najiss

Hi All,
Just like everyone, I'm excited about updating to Gingerbread 2.3. So when I heard the official version is available via Kies, I connected my SGS to kies but its saying in the Firmware infomation: 'This version of the device cannot be updated'. The Kies software is the most recent version 2.0.0.1.11032_12.

I'm currently in UK an have an unbranded (unlocked/sim free) SGS.
Current firmware version PDA:JPA / PHONE:JPP / CSC:JP4 (XEU).

Any thoughts or advice?

Thanks.

Gingerbread seems to have been pulled for the moment.

I managed to upgrade to 2.3.3 before it was pulled. KIES is now showing that this firmware cannot be updated. Why is this?

It should say that i have the latest firmware??

Mine used to say the same, i.e., " This version of the device cannot be updated ". My phone was supplied to me by Virgin Mobile UK, unlocked and unbranded. Firmware version 2.2.1 JPW ( XEU ).
Recently I flashed it with Darky's rom 9.5, but decided to return the phone back to stock. However, I couldn't find JPW on samfirmware so just flashed it with JPY. Now Kies gives me the message " This is the latest firmware ".
So it would seem that Kies doesn't recognize certain firmwares and says " This version of the device cannot be updated ".

All the best.
