Help Text Messaging

Lurker
I have an issue with my text messaging and hoping you all could help me with this. I love keeping text messages for the fact that I can go back and retrieve past conversations, etc, if I need to, so I don't delete anything. Is there a limit on the phone as to how many you can have, or the size of your text message area? I guess I was under the impression that the text messages were saved on your SD card? ...or can you get them saved there?

SD Card Storage: 1.43GB
Internal Storage: 18MB
Internal Memory: 45Mb

My text messaging works now, but just a little bit ago it didn't. When it wasn't working, I can't remember what the internal memory said, but the storage said 17MB.....I've seen my messaging work fine before at 17 and even 16MB, so not sure why it would be full now. So, I turned the phone on and off, still nothing....Then I went and deleted (cleared) the data on my facebook app. The app itself is like 4.xxMB, but seems when I put my log-in credentials on there, it always jumps to 6, 7, and even 8 or 9MB. I seem to go in there a lot to do this, then just have to log-in again....but doing this seems to always fix my text messaging problem.

I'm just curious why it wasn't working at 17 this time but it would work at that amount before....and if there is a way for me to change where my text messaging is stored and maybe some help with facebook and why it always goes up so much in MB after I log in?

Thanks!

i guess i must be using the stock one that came with the phone. never knew there was anything else out there? which one is better?

thanks again for this help!

I prefer stock most of the time, but its personal preference....anyway what do you mean by my messages werent working? What aspect wasnt working the way it is supposed to? Were they not going/coming through? Going/coming late? Going to the wrong people? Force close?

No I just got notification saying my text messages were full and the incoming messages were rejected. But, as soon as I cleared my data from facebook it opened up....I didn't delete anything from my text messaging. I've always done this since I got my phone, but don't know why it says text messaging is full, when I delete some space somewhere else and it opens again. Also, the notification came at 17MB this time..usually I don't get it till it gets down to 15 or under.

You can download the app "SMS Backup & Restore" to back up your text messages to the SD card. Then delete the old ones in your messaging app to free up room. Then you can look at you archived text in the SMS backup & restore app.

15mb is not a lot of free space at all. If you want to be able to save more texts, you need to free up space by deleting apps. And no, texts do not get saved to the sd card. You can back them up to the sd card, using the app SMS Backup and Restore though.

Sounds like your settings...if you reach the capacity, but do not have it set up to delete older messages as new ones come in, then the new messeges are rejected.

I might go ahead and try that backup app...that will work hopefully!

Ya, I realize 15MB isn't that much space. I keep on adding apps....Wish my phone had more storage!

I'll let you guys know how that goes!

Thanks for all the help!
