sprint documentation on rooting

I'm wondering if rooting the htc G1 voided your warranty, and everyone has been repeating this since then, while things have changed with the carriers and no one realizes it.

I don't know where it says it officially but I tried to have them fix my power button while I was still rooted (yes it was a stupid idea) and they put it in their system as "Damaged Beyond Repair" forever. They won't do anything for your phone for as long as it has the same serial number.

That could be an instance where the Sprint employee was ill-informed. I have found some folks on these forums to know more about what they're doing than some Sprint employees.

I agree. Every time I go in a store to look at phones, I know more about them than the salesperson... and I'm pretty casual when it comes to smart-phone research. I basically helped a guy root his Hero one day while I was browsing tablets.

I doubt the company trains their employees to root phones.

could not agree more with you on that. But the tech is suppose to know more than the customer????
No. They may have a broader knowledge of phones than the average customer and some basic diagnostic skills and equipment. But they will have a much shallower depth of knowledge about any one phone other than the one they own.

In general, that is. There are exceptional techs that could probably do much better in life running their own wireless business. On average, though, the position simply does not pay enough for a tech to support a family. A great starter job, but still a starter job and that means moving on as they gain education and experience.

Don't slam them. You would not want to pay the monthly charge it would require to provide free in-house tech support staffed with degreed career professionals.

you cant really expect them to know everything about every phone...

training covers basics of the operating systems not really in depth you learn about bugs and fixes as you go....

i agree .. they dont have to know the little details of every phone they have...

but!!!!!

they should know the basics of each.. especially the "popular" ones.
not knowing what is Gingerbread is??
not knowing what is special about the Samsung Galaxy S screens??
not knowing which phones have android?? what is android?

if they dont know that... sorry.. not a really competent cell phone tech .. sales.. rep.
