Hi here is a website to the 2.2.1 update for my xperia x10i which is currently on 2.1 firmware. I just wanted to know if this website is fine for me to update my x10i with? Anyone done it possibly with another website and can it be done by pc companion?

Custom Rom Froyo 2.2.1 For Xperia X10 Released | Moniroth

Will all my stuff still be there after the update or will I have to backup first?

Also what are the big benefits of updating to 2.1.1?
I have read and seen youtube vids that it gives real 2 multi-touch screens and it has flash player built in to the firmware so I can watch any video online?
Is this true and anything else? Possibly a good link to the update features.

Thanks for your help in advance.

How do you root your phone and when you know its done? Sorry new to this I have only updated my software from 1.6 to 2.1 through pc companion which was obviously easily.

any help, advice please?

Well seen this on the forum so will have a go at this seems to be working for everyone on 2.1 and even another link for the 1.6 if you scroll down.

Thanks

Just as Tuttle said, you will need to root your phone either using the one in your post or using SuperOneClick root.

Before you do anything else, I suggest backing up contacts etc.

You will then need to install xRecovery.

Download the ROM you want and transfer it to your SD card.

After installing xRecovery, boot into recovery and backup your current ROM as everything will be wiped.

Now follow the instructions for the ROM to install it.

Will Titanium backup do the same job as xRecovery? Where can I find it as its not on the market?

I don't think they do the same as I think Titanium Backup is for apps and xRecovery is used to flash roms and other things.

You can get xRecovery from here.

Just remembered that you need BusyBox installed for xRecovery. Go to the market and download BusyBox.

Open it but don't press on install and allow Superuser permission if prompt.

Download xRecovery from the link and install it to your phone. Open it and click on Install xRecovery.

You now should be able to boot into recovery.

I'm getting problems with the xrecovery file.

After installing z4root and clicking permanently root, I went into xrecovery after installing on my phone and then clicked on xrecovery, it says to install. After I click install the 3 boxed doesn't get ticked off??

Like shown in this video right before taking the battery out.

any help? something ive missed before or is it my phone? I haven't had any issues with my phone everything works fine including using the camera and downloading. If that helps.

Is your phone rooted?

Have you installed BusyBox from the market?

What does it say when you press one of the 3 boxes?

It should be fine as I looks like he just uses the computer to install BusyBox and xRecovery whereas I just done it on the phone.
