Anyone in the UK got their Nexus One yet?

8.00 on Monday! But you can't judge by that, it depends where you are on the delivery route.

I doubt my wife would be pleased to know about this girlfriend though

Anyway, my wife isn't interested so looks like we will remain a one Nexus One Household.

@FLT even if she does go back you can sell it for a small fortune on ebay right now.

Right after having spent a evening playing with it im still as giddy as one of those drunk skimpily dressed students in brighton on a friday night :P

I wont do a full review as frankly loads have been done and also because I cant be arsed :P but heres a few observations.

1. Its very solidly built and very sleek. fits in the hand nicely.

2. the screen is the sexiest thing i've ever seen. cant see why people complained about the screen. its beautiful. my wife is now hankering afterone after holding it next to her iphone.

3. the combine contacts system its great. It imported my contacts from gmail and facebook and then all I had to do was change the odd name to match(once the names match it auto combines the contacts) and voila. I did hit one snag with this. It was auto set to only show contacts from certain areas so once I added a new contact it didnt show up. a few ticks in the right boxes and that was solved.

4. the app store took a little getting used to but now im browsing like a champ. seems a decent choice and its growing.

5. cant see why people didnt like the music app. didnt seem much different to my iphone.

6. the widget options great.

7. now im used to the changes and buttons navigating the UI seems far more intuitive than my iphone.

8. loving just how many settings there are and how customisable the phone is. had to install a few apps to get to some quicker but otherwise the depth of the options is fantastic.

9. Love the keyboard

10. love the voice to text feature even more. the pure geek factor of speaking texts and posts is truely awesome.

11. seen no glitchyness or slowdowns

umm think thats all for now. have just found one problem so far. when I switch to vibrate for work(cant have the ringer on in the office) it doesnt vibrate for text messages. Anyone know where the setting is for that?

Also I'd be curious to know what apps everyones installing. So far I've installed:
Retro clock
Movies
unit converter
daily strip
photoshop mobile
pkt auctions ebay
quick settings
the weather channel

In messaging, hit the menu hardware button, then settings and then at the very bottom under notifications is the vibrate tick box.

I would recommend the Handcent SMS app. Much nicer to look at and has customisable bubbles, colours, backgrounds etc etc. Remember to switch auto retrieve off on the original app and on on Handcent if you do this.

I have also loaded the following:

Beebplayer - iPlayer app
Google Goggles - camera based browser app
Soccer Live Scores - live football scores for all leagues and cups - TOON TOON!
Shazam - listens to playing music and tells you what it is - for pub quiz cheating!
Net Sentry - keeps track of mobile internet and Wi-Fi data usage.
Astro File Manager
Advanced Task Killer - kill background apps.
BatteryLife (Curvefish) - Battery widget, giving percentage charge, temperature and condition.
Android Facebook - not great but sadly the best at the moment.
Movies - have this too.

And a few paid games.

thanks Martin thats brilliant

I'll have a look at that sms app though to be honest I quite like the default one. was never a fan of the bubbled iphone approach for sms. I saw that google goggles, how is it?

also saw the soccer live scores let me know how it is as some people said it sits there eating battery alot.

share the games too as I havent had a chance to check any out yet

Can I just say.... EEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Set myself 3 alarms this morning, 9:30, 9:32 and 9:34 (I'm notoriously bad at getting up). Then all of a sudden there's a knock on my door... "Joooooo!!!!! It's heeeeeeeere!!!!"

Thank god for being unemployed and living with my parents cos I didn't hear the doorbell at all! Have just plugged it in and it turned itself on, so I promptly turned it off again. I'm a big fan of instructions, and the instructions say wait til light is green, so I'm going to at least try! Start up screen was freaking beautiful though!

DHL bloke said I was first on their list of deliveries for today:D

Handscent gives you many options for text bubbles, doesn't have to be like iPhone. It has an Android one similar to stock.

Soccer Live Scores. I've used it since I had a Hero and never had problems. If you do, use a task killer to close it once your teams game has finished.

Games:

Robo Defense: Tower defense game. There's a free version with one map so you check that you like it.

Craigs Race Pro: Top down racer. Not great, not terrible.

Mini Golf Crazy Worlds: Nice crazy golf game. Android Crazy golf is there for free (one course) and isn't bad. Crazy Worlds is better.

iPingPong 3D: Touch swipe table tennis. Seems ok on initial quick game.

Raging Thunder: 3D rear view racing game. Probably the best on Android currently.

I have also loaded the following:

Beebplayer - iPlayer app

Oh, I had not heard that was on there! That is freaking awesome, I'm a big user of iPlayer!! 10 mins in and the light's still orange. Not sure I can do this *jigjigjigjigjig*

Ha ha. Just switch it on it'll be fine. I couldn't resist and have no issues with my battery.

Pleased you got it though!

I'll give it at least an hour.

Just noticed on my US plug adaptor it says that it "does not convert voltage, therefore ensure your electrical products can operate on UK voltage (240V)"

This is fine, right?

I believe so. If it's not converting anything then it should just be using what's coming out of the wall!

Oh, aaaalso, there's an unanswered thread in this forum that I'd like to know the answer to, do any of you? It's about ensuring that all 3G/edge data etc is turned off. I want to make sure I'm not sending loadsa info down my phone line when I don't have my new SIM card with inclusive allowance yet, but will want to be sending people texts from my new phone!!

You can switch off wireless network data in the settings menu.

Hit:

Menu > Settings > Accounts & Sync settings >

Background data
Auto-sync

Download Net Sentry to check that you are not using mobile internet.

The Hero used to have a mobile internet check box in the wireless data menu which is missing from the N1. I prefered that as I knew it wouldn't do anything!

Woho!! Congrats! Mine's still not here :(. I certainly hope they use the bell.. If they knock I could very well have missed it!! GAAAH!

or download quick settings and have that as a shortcut on one of your pages :) it lets you turn everything on/off without having to go through the menus.

Martin what task killer do you use?

OH also what screen protector/skin/case are you guys buying if any? As much as I love the soft care it came with sliding it in and out will get annoying when I want to do things. And as sturdy as the phone feels I dont want to leave it too chance. I've had a look on fleabay but there dont seem to be any uk sellers yet

Advanced Task Killer. Has the green Android Logo with an X on its chest.

Taskiller with the red Android logo is equally as good.

I have bought the full coverage Invisible Shield from Zagg.com

Whilst not perfect it is the only option I've found that offers great scratch protection whilst keeping the look of the phone. The N1 cover hasn't arrived yet but I did use it on iPhone,

that looks verrrrry fiddly to put on. the N1 one in perticular looks to be in several pieces. was it trick on the Iphone?

Yes, you have to spend time making sure it is applied without bubbles. It comes with some solution which dries after application which helps flatten the cover out.

It is fiddly but if you can be patient and do a good job you should be pleased.
