Does Metro have a 3G EV-DO network?

Eh, we all get by. Besides most of us do any heavy data usage at work/home via WiFi. Metro's 1x is good enough for standard on the go stuff.

Maybe the 4G is good for my data needs.

Not really... the 4g antenna sucks your battery down so quickly you'll find yourself not wanting to use it unless you are downloading...

If you dont have access to wifi you are honesty better off with VM or Boost...

I came over from Boost because they just didnt have a good phon to go with their data. Still don't, as far as I'm concerned... The Prevail is not good enough to have kept me...

A budget network with a decent web speed for downloading apps, browsing the web, and streaming music and video.

Metro's 3G is 1xRtt which is slower than EV DO.streaming video isn't really an option. Also the Ascend CANNOT run Flash. It is a hardware problem, unless Adobe rewrites it for our processor. This probably isn't the phone for you if you want videos.

You'll have to just shell out the dough for the Indulge. It's your only option if you want good data capabilities.
Get the Any Cut app and create a shortcut for the LTE Test and just shut off your 4G and all your auto background stuff and only turn them on when you need them. My battery life has been extended considerably.

I will say it again, so more people see it. The antenna is not what kills the battery. what kills the battery is the fact that the phone is basically 2 phones running off of one battery. a CDMA phone for Voice and off 4g data, and an LTE phone for data ONLY. HTC is working with metro on creating a true VoLTE phone. please for the sake of all thats science, quit spouting lies.

Ok, smart guy... explain why my new wimax EVO "4g" dual antenna (Yup, WiMax doesn't run off CDMA) phone doesn't overheat or drain the battery so quickly I need to carry a stack of batteries just to make it through the day? Oh, and just so you know, the EVO and Indulge both have a 1500mAH battery...

Tell you what... instead of telling me that I'm lying when I had to deal with that piece of shit phone myself, show me why I'm wrong.

there is a difference between dual antenna, and dual chip. the evo has a cdma chip and a wimax antenna. the indulge has a cdma chip and an lte chip.

WiMax is a glorified WiFi signal, hence the Wi part of WiMax.

The Evo has a dedicated WiMAX SoC as identified in these pictures, it's the Sequans SQ1210 RF combo chip. The WiFi is handled by the Broadcom BCM4329.

HTC Evo 4G Teardown - Page 2 - iFixit

WiMAX is not glorified WiFi - it uses a protocol similar to wifi, but is appropriate for wide-area operations as opposed to just a local area network. Ditto on the radio circuitry.

And while it's a popular conception that 1x is 2.5G, that was then, this is now, standards apply to aid in understanding these things: 1x is 3G, per the ITU's IMT-2000 spec.

EDIT - I keep forgetting, they mis-identified that chip - see - Sequans SQN1210 65 nm WiMAX SoC for the Evo 4G (misidentified by ifixit as the SQ1210).They left off the N.

alright, back on topic here...

metro had evdo in dallas and detroit areas. they shut it off when lte launched. very upsetting. they should have kept it. these androids have been killing their 1x like no other...
