aTAKEphONE released

Feature request: an option to combine entries in the call log by contact.

One of the few BB features I still long for on Android. For folks that may have 30 calls a day from the same person, it makes the call log much more usable.

Hi,

This is already on my list.

Thanks.

I think I'm missing something. What additional features does aTAKEphONE offer that require it to maintain its own favorites database? This isn't meant as a dig - I really like the app and want to make sure I'm getting all the benefits. :)

Hi,

Well - first - enable reordering of the cells (although I admit this needs improvements in the "how this is done").

Ability to add entries manually (not on the contacts list).

You can import all your "built in" favorites from the menu.

Thanks.

I'm trying aTakePhone on a Samsung Epic. Is there a way to make aTakePhone open when I hit the phone icon on the Epic--instead of the stock dialer? Or is that a Touchwiz problem?

Might be. In LauncherPro I can change the action of an icon by long pressing and selecting the action I want - I don't think you can do that in the Touchwiz launcher.

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in aTAKEphONE.

You're right - afraid that button is "hard coded" to launch the built-in dialer app.

Sorry...

I just wanted to let you know that I finally purchase aTAKEphONE via the Android Market. It's a great app - keep up the good work! :)

Another suggestion (in addition to my earlier posts): when allowing searching by company, matching entries all display the company name in parenthesis along with the contact name and a phone number. When the company name is long enough (happens frequently for me) only the first few characters (if any) of the contact name is displayed, and there is no indication of whether the number displayed is a work number, cell number, etc, making it virtually impossible to know which entry is the one you're looking for. (I think) It would be much better to display the search results as they are elsewhere in the app.

I have a Droid 2 global and was asked the first time I used the program if I wanted it to be the default dialer. I chose yes. Now the stock dialer brings up aTakephone.

That.s how it's supposed to work. You can clear that in settings.

A suggestion: it would be great (IMHO) to be able to use Astrid to schedule calls instead of the Calendar. I'm thinking of using the same button in aTAKEphONE, but have it create an Astrid item that is due "X" minutes in the future, where the default value for "X" is configurable within aTAKEphONE.

Re. the company search results display - I will solve this soon. I think I got the layout problem solved, and will implement this shortly.

Interesting idea. Will check if there's a software interface for this in Astrid.

Thanks.

For anyone interested, there is a workaround for Gingerbread blocking aTAKEphONE's ability to clear the missed call notification (if you're device is rooted). Gingerbread restricts this ability to system apps only. So what I did was move aTAKEphONE from /data/app to /system/app. Now it has no problem clearing the missed call notification.

I originally tried doing this with ES File Explorer in root mode, but it was unable to do it. So, with my Simply Stunning ROM I opened terminal emulator, and did the following:

$ su
# sysrw <-- script that mounts system as read-write
# cp /data/app/com.shsh.android.atakephone-1.apk /system/app
# rm /data/app/com.shsh.android.atakephone-1.apk
# sysro <-- script that mounts system as read-only
# exit
$ exit

Then, rebooted the phone.

I hear that Root Explorer can do what I tried with ES File Explorer, but I can't confirm this.

Also, before anyone asks, I plan on using Titanium Backup's ability to merge updates into a ROM so that I don't end up with another copy of aTAKEphONE in /data/app after an update.

Strangely enough... this same thing does not work on CM7. aTAKEphONE force closes immediately any time I try to launch it after it's been moved. After moving back, everything works fine again.

EDIT: I tried again and immediately after moving I rebooted into recovery and cleared the Dalvik cache. All is well now.

Installed and testing the 30-day trial on a Desire HD with Gingerbread (stock - not rooted). So far I like what I see. But, and there's always a 'but', it'd be nice to have a tab that allows you to order your complete contact list in its entirety and be able to alter the ordering. By that I mean, list by any of the contacts fields, such as first name, last name, company, etc. Obviously listing by some fields would not be very helpful, but the 3 mentioned would be.

I realise I could 'search' for this but sometimes you just want a list easily available to browse, ordering by different parameters.

Easily done?

(Apologies if you can do this and I've missed out on how. Just point me in the right direction if so ..... :o).

Nice idea.

Added to the "todo" list.

Thanks

Thanks! Just think that with a couple more "tweaks" to the app like that then it'll be more use for business as well as personal use. Sorting by first/last name is fine for personal use but, for instance, I'd like to sort by company so that I can look at which contacts I have for that company and decide who might be the best contact. That's something a 'search' can't decide for me.

On another note, the postal address has a large screen area so there are none that I can't see in their entirety, unlike the HTC People app where the address is often cut off. Is this something that you ensure happens or could an address "overflow" it's allowed area and thus be cut off? If so, it'd be nice to make sure the address can always be seen in full.

Is there an option to launch anything other than Google maps when you tap the address? I know lots of people like Google maps but others like different mapping systems. Copilot Live for example. Would it be possible to add a setting to launch the maps app of your choice when tapping the address? Or should it do this anyway?

Thanks in advance.

>>> I am not targeting Google Maps specifically, just using the OS defined interface. If any other app supports this, you should be able to see a dialog prompting you to select which one to choose.

Just to make clear, I've seen no problems at the moment as I always get entire postal addresses displayed. I was just asking if that would always be the case? If, for example, you had a really long address, would the last few characters get cut off on the display? This is what happens with the stock HTC People app and it's really frustrating.

I see. Thanks for the clarification.

... Version 1.47 just released at the Android Market and at my own website (ShSh Software)

- Clearing missed call/s icon no longer works on Gingerbread (blocked by Google), so restored "go to system call log" menu option ...

Just found this "issue" today, then this comment, and wondered what the issue is with Google? Is this something that will get fixed with an update or will it never get fixed?

And what does the "go to system call log" menu option actually do? On my phone it just brings up the atakephone call log? Is that what it's suppoed to do?

Hi,

We are talking about the "Missed call" notification icon on the top status bar. This is displayed by the built-in phone app, and is cleared only by it when you go to the built-in app's call log screen.

I found a way to "hook" into it, and call that function externally from my code, but in the new OS version (Gingerbread) Google made some security enhancements, that prevent such workarounds from working.

I understand and respect Googles security policy, but this blocked my ability to turn off that notification.

So - only way to turn off that notification is to open the built-in call log.

To make things somewhat easier, I added an option in the menu inside aTAKEphONE's call log screen to "Go to system log", so you select it, and aTAKEphONE launches the built-in log, that in turn turns off the notification, then you can just press the hardware BACK button to return to aTAKEphONE.

Thanks for explaining that, makes it clear what's happening. However, when I use that option it calls the aTakephone call log and not the system one. I tried it with atakephone as default and not the default. No difference.

Went into 'Menu/System call log' - calls the atakephone call log up.
Went into 'Menu/Settings/'Call log' tab/Go to system call log' - calls the atakephone call log.

Am I missing something? My phone is an HTC Desire HD, recently upgraded to 2.3.3 (did a hardware reset after the upgrade and re-installed everything) and running the stock ROM. Not rooted and never has been.

Thanks.

Hi,

Very strange.

Can you try deleting aTAKEphONE, then trying again ?
