3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

EVO3D launching with unlocked bootloader... per Htc Facebook( see Phonearena). No link . Too lazy. Hope this isn't old or in the wrong thread.

Meh...

Supply Chain fail.

All of the guessing games, really comes down to WHEN the physical machines(phones) make it state side.

I am confident Sprint would have announced a launch this weekend, if they could have done it confidently.

Pre-order folks, we will likely have it in the next week and a half. To get it out to us phone homers and win the blog world. En mass(walk into a store and walk out with it) won't happen for another three weeks.

Had a five minute deal on the 3d, they really took a lot of time to make sure everybody knew it is a glasses free 3d phone, they really didn't hit on the dual core or the latest Android etc... those are major selling points to me. Just seems like the advertisement is just lacking in all areas. By the way it was show with the kickstand case looks pretty nice

Technically, it isn't loaded with the latest Android. It has 2.3.3 and the latest is 2.3.4. :P

While only a minor difference, the significance will be in that big stink a few weeks back about the wifi security. Which was found only the latest GB had a fix and it may lead to shenanigans about improper advertisement.

I think if it does release the 4th week, it will hurt sprint because the sensation is releaseing the 8th, and is basically the same phone without the 3d, so anyone whos contract is currently up, and is waiting for the evo 3d, they find out it it releases end of June, when on the 8th they can get the same phone basically. Why would sprint wait for everyone else to beat them to the punch as I have said before, wouldnt they want to compete with the sensation and release first? I am not saying people wont wait, but there are certain people who will not wait and jump ship somewhere else, as consumers we are a very impulsive, and impatient bunch. Last year the evo released before any other major phone, would figure this year it would be the same. Another thing that could be delaying it is the nexus s 4g has sold really well from what I have read, so they dont want to kill that momentum.

Provided the buyer is content with significant downgrades to RAM, internal memory, no dedicated camera button, no 3D screen and a smaller battery.

I'm inclined to believe most wont have a problem waiting an extra 15 days for the better phone.

I replayed that video 5 times from my dvr and there is no kickstand on the phone they were showing.

Can someone show where in the Playbook it says it'd be the fourth week of June? All I see is Fourth Week

It doesn't. The fourth week is assumed to mean the fourth week in June. Hopefully the assumptions are incorrect and the phone is released sooner than that...

I turned on the Sprint Cup last night for a minute and all I saw was a commercial about how AT&T is getting faster with 4G.

*confusion

After looking at the "playbook", and seeing the Evo 4G still listed in the new device special offers section that goes from 6/5 to 6/23, I tend to think that best case scenario is we'll see the Evo 3D on 6/24. Everything in that playbook is basically from 6/5 to 6/23, and they just throw in the same old intro flyer for the Evo 3D at the end, with no price or release date, and it says week 4.

So 6/24 in my opinion is the BEST CASE scenario however. It very well could linger out until July, especially if they were initially planning on releasing early June and were forced to delay the launch due to problems etc.

I'm not banking on this device until late June, early July at the earliest based on these documents. If the Evo 3D was even close to launching in the 6/5 to 6/23 timeframe, they would make mention of it in the new device offers section. They wouldn't completely leave it off there, while still pushing the Evo 4G.

Either that, or knowing that someone might (aka would eventually) leak the document, they may have left off pricing info on purpose. It's not like something indicating a time slot in June is really that earth shattering for release date info :)

Or...we should consider that maybe they are just playin' with us by leaving the info out. Probably not the case. But considering how they Sprint interacted on FB with questions on the release date the conspiracy is not too out of line.

Doubtful, but we are all reaching here, aren't we?

would they
could they
have they

waited till the day of release .. and announce it ????
or even the day before?

So that means that last week was the 4th week of training, not that the fourth week of June will be their 4th week of training right?

So, I know there's no real rational way to justify it, but the whole Nascar thing still just feels like a bit of a big middle finger to the people who have been looking forward to this since it was announced. Between the Twitter message and Facebook stuff saying that it will be announced soon, it seems like they were completely steering people towards believing a date was imminent, and then turning around and giving them nothing (at least to this point).

Maybe Sprint truly doesn't know when they will be able to release it for one reason or another (I don't buy it), and while they don't owe us any kind of explanation as to why there's been such a long delay in any information, wouldn't it be nice if they'd at least throw us a bone (supply chain, quality concerns, hardware issues, something?)

While I'm not sure where it leaves us, the Playbook thing (to me) doesn't seem to indicate that it'll be available 4th week of June. Doesn't really leave us anywhere new other than guessing what the date will be.

So, all right, this might have been more venting than anything. Sorry.

If it does go into the 4th week of June, I'm screwed. I I leave on the 23rd for a 3 week vacation and I have a pre-order here. Yeah, I could pick one up while on vacation, but then I'm not guaranteed they will have stock.

after seriously considering the evo and even getting a pre-order at best buy i have now changed course. I'm glad I did. I decided the 3d and dual core is overrated. The evo 3d software doesn't even support full use of the 2nd core. I flashed an AOSP Rom yesterday and fell in love with pure google. The benefits of owning google's flagship device out weighs anything the EVO 3D has to offer.

Amazonwireless has it for $99! at $99 on top of all the benefits of a nexus S I don't see how you can go wrong with it.

I don't like how sprint/htc is playing games with the evo 3d. Reminds me of Apple with their attempts of secretiveness.

Didn't Google fix that issue with a back end server fix?

The Sensation and Evo 3D may be similar, but they are definitely not "basically the same phone." Not even close. The Evo 3D is WAY better.

Aside from the RAM and ROM where the Evo 3D has significantly more of both, there are also the 3D cameras and 3D screen.

I don't know why people keep acting like this is no big deal. There are millions of people in the USA who own a 3D tv right now. And anyone with a 3D tv in their home theater is probably the type of person that would want to buy this phone.

If you think this phone is "basically the same phone" as the sensation, then Sprint isn't marketing this phone at you anyway. You can go buy an Atrix, Nexus S, or Galaxy S 2. When they are all released, of course. But make no mistake about it, lots of people do and will care about the 3D cameras and screen.
