Oh yeah! With the talks about the photon 4g, possible nexus3 made by htc, and late 3d release, news about gingerbread release at the end of week is just confirmation I should wait to upgrade.

I feel the same way. Plus for me I'm going out of town for two weeks on the 24th. I think I can wait. If Sprint would have released it sooner I would have gotten it without thinking twice.

Sense won't be updated in the EVO 4G. At least not a full upgrade. HTC twitted a few weeks ago that they were looking into putting bits and pieces but not a full on sense upgrade.

I can't say I would've upgraded for sure, but had the release date been June 4, I would've at least gone to the store to check it out. It's the talk about other devices coming to Sprint that mostly has ne not even rushing to check out the evo 3d.

What are the new features we should be excited about in 2.3? Just so I can get my drool going while I wait.

And is battery life supposed to be better on the Evo with 2.3?

Basically it gives us the new downloads app, it also stated we can use gtalk to video chat with several bug fixes. I'm fine with that, I'm sure cooked up ROMs will have more features

Good question. The one thing I really want is access to the DSP sound. If you root, you can have a standalone EQ app change the sound of all audio apps on the device, but we can't right now on 2.2

I've no idea if 2.3 will let us do this feature or not.

It's the only thing really tempting me to root.

For those that know how to update it manually could you post some place where they give directions how this is done for me and everyone else that is interested in doing it on the 6th

Thanks in advance

from the android guys website..

The 6th is not all that far off, but we have even better news for you - manual updates can be done starting on June 3rd. Yep - users can search for the update three days before it begins pinging handsets with notifications.

All one has to do is go through the following steps, in order. Ten minutes and one reboot later and you're all set!
  1. Menu
  2. Settings
  3. System Updates
  4. HTC Software Updates
  5. Check Now
  6. OK
  7. Yes

Ta da! Thanks compadre!

Also looking forward to web download instructions if they're going to put the package up on the Sprint support web.

Note to rooters - if you're rooted, don't take the OTA, you'll lose root at minimum.

I have been holding at 2.1 so I could root and go with Cyanogen if they ever got 4G and HDMI out working. 2.2 didn't offer much that i needed.

I think I read that HTC was going to unlock all their bootloaders.

However, 2.3 is a desirable upgrade but I do not want to lose the ability to go to Cyanogen if they ever get 4G and HDMI out working.

If I root and the 2.3 upgrade doesn't lock the bootloader would I be able to go from 22.3 to Cyanogen?

this is very great news but i have to say im definitely disappointed that we're not even getting sense 2.0 let alone 3.0, i thought for sure we would get some kind of upgrade to sense

Keeping a ear out in the EVO community we hope this OTA covers some of more important features you all have requested. Better battery life, NFC, and update to sense. There will be smaller features/fixes included with the OTA as well.
To use NFC will require the purchase of one of these.

When they come available, but software will be included to support it. Expect further updates from Sprint and Google on EVO 4G and EVO 3D with respect to NFC.
Sense update is modified in order to get gingerbread out to the EVO community in a timely manner. Expect improved performance with sense and h/w web browse express. Cosmetics wise there will be small changes to sense UI.
