Should I buy HTC Desire or HTC Desire S

HTC Desire or HTC Desire S?

Which one should i buy?Because in our country the HTC desire s is very expensive but i can still if it is worth the money


I like the HTC Desire S but the thing is the "The Death Grip" is a deal breaker for me.
Anyways is this a hardware problem or software problem?

While im worried as well with the HTC Desire's screen not Gorilla Glass is the screen on the desire durable from accidental drops?

Hope somebody can help me with this thanks :)
 
My experience with HTC glass is that the glass is durable. Glass, not even Gorilla Glass, is unbreakable, so the HTC one isn't unbreakable either. But Corning isn't the only maker around the world with impact-scratch resistant (not proof, which is a difference) glass, the Japanese like Asahi Glass got similar technologies.

Given the time, I would expect the glass on the Desire S to be equal or better than the Desire. It maybe at a recent point that HTC also started to use Gorilla Glass (though I am not sure about that).

I got much more confidence on the Desire S. It has a faster CPU and GPU that consumes less power, more RAM, a more advanced and optimized version of HTC Sense, and much greater internal phone memory to put apps in. Overall, a much better device than the Desire.
 
Thanks for the reply guys hows about the "Death Grip"/Wifi Issue thats the only thing keepig me from buying the HTC Desire S is it a Hardware Issue? or a Software Issue

Its really a dealbreaker for me please help me decide :)

As long as you don't cover the top part of the phone (near the camera), it should be fine.

The German journal "Connect" has compared the reception of the two phones.

Desire send/receive scoring
GSM: 22 of 33 points
UMTS: 12 of 17 points

Desire S send/receive scoring
GMS: 21 of 33 points
UMTS: 10 of 17 points

So the plastic back cover of the Desire is somewhat more permeable for radio waves than the metal unibody of the Desire S.

Granted, Desire S is the sensible choice.
However, if you are into rooting and custom ROMs and don't want to pay too much, then Desire is a better choice.

@Harry2 do you think if the original Desire had a unibody it would also have an antenna issue? and i read from some forum that it was only a software issue from gingerbread thats causing the wifi issue, whats your say on this?

A lot of factors can cause signal degradation or attenuation. Even the position of the phone in relation to the receiving antennae can make the results fluctuate +/- 2 points. Those results, though favoring the Desire over the S, I doubt you'd see much of a difference in day-to-day use.
 
Have you considered any other phone
I think the LG 2X is around the same price range as the Desire S, and the Desire is well outdated yet overpriced IMO
 
If your looking to customise your phone, the Desire S is a bad choice as the bootloader is locked so you can't even root it
The 2X and original Desire both have a vibrant Dev community

I know someone who got one of HTCs new locked down phones and really regrets it as she can't get root :(
 
I see the Desire as a classic phone because of the reviews and its always getting positve reviews. it was top listed in techradar as "the best mobile phone of 2010 " CNETUK made it editors choice and Engadget also gave it 8 out of 10.
Galaxy S is on my mind as well :)) LG 2x is expensive here and ive read somewhere that the dual core in LG 2X doesnt do much

I would take Galaxy S over the Desire, and probably over the Desire S

The person I am talking about has an Incredible S
 
Hmm why? What i didnt like about the Galaxy S:
*Lack of Led Notification
*Plasticky Feel
*Lack of Flash in the Camera
*Its SAMSUNG!!! (idk about this one but ive read that people have bad records of having a Samsung phone)

BTW what phone are you currently using?

I don't think that Gingerbread has worsen WiFi.
My Desire HD with Gingerbread (update) only switches earlier than previosly from WiFi to 3G when the WiFi connection is bad.

@Harry - so its really a hardware flaw on the HTC Desire S?

You have a Desire right? Hows the screen is it durable enough? and battery life?How long does it last?

Its has a great screen (however its pentile matrix means less pixels so if your a high DPI lover it may be annoying) , is very customisable, ok speakers, Good internal memory, good hardware
Also great value
