Gingerbread impressions/tips/problems NON ROOTED STOCK ONLY

Oh interesting. Would this comport with what BlueScreen is saying about another update on June 9, or do you think the two are unrelated?

I don't know, but it makes sense that it would be included in one of the first updates out. Paul with Sprint's Installation Support knew immediately what I was talking about when I mentioned the wireless-N problem. He also mentioned other "compatibility issues" would be addressed, but wasn't specific.

It was just so refreshing to get someone from Sprint who acknowledged the issue. I went through two CSR's at the first level who tried to reset the phone twice and went through all the radio resets. Then, level two simply said I needed to call my router manufacturer. Oh, yeah, Linksys will go all out to help an Evo problem. Finally, she had the good sense to transfer me to installation support.

Ok, so now I'm pissed. So I did the new "Restart" option to see if I could get rid of the voicemail notification (Settings/Call/Clear voicemail notification was grayed out). Now it is like I did a factory restart because it looks like what it looked like on launch day (Sense w/ all the Sprint bloatware on one screen etc.). So i think it is no big deal, I'll just start back up Launcher Pro and it should go back to my custom setup, but there is no Launcher Pro in my app drawer. No big deal, I'll go to the Market and re-download the paid version (since I already paid for it months ago),l but it shows up as I was unpaid for Launcher Pro Plus. WTF? This update is a nightmare.

Edit: Okay, sorry found the answer in a post on the previous page. My background is gone though.

As chance would have it I just happened to out of the blue check for firmware, PRL and software updates on the 4th, knowing nothing of the Gingerbread update. Knowing better, for a fraction of a second I thought to myself "Don't do it" when I saw the software update, but I did it anyway, my being a computer tech who has to have the latest and greatest releases. What the hells the matter with me? I feel like someone cut my right arm off

I sure hope they fix this soon

im scared to post how great the update was for me. not sure if its because i got a good phone or good update. so far no problems only positives here. just got my white evo march 15th this year. i dont have the pandora problem although i prefer slacker radio, no vm probs either. i never use netflix so im not concerned with that. my battery life has doubled and yesterday i got 22 hrs with moderate use (2 hrs slacker radio, lil bit of bejeweled, lot of facebook, lot of twittering, few calls and about 100 sms/mms). i hope the next update helps most of you with these issues. im enjoying this update a lot.

Update - I fixed all missing icons, but most disappeared again after a reboot.
I turned off fast load and then HTC Sense abended. I force closed, sense restarted and now all the icons are correct.

I was reading through the whole thread and came to this post(same icon in folders issue) force stopped htc sense then hit the home button to make it reload. Bada Bing! there back. I was concerned at first cuz one was still missing, my desk clock. Then i got to looking and realized they got rid of it since you can get to it through the clock widget or clock app. All is well other than that so far. If any issues should arise i shall post fixes or stupid questions about them. Thanks for the great info(and stupid questions) everyone.

Update: nevermind it came back.

After reading all of this I am glad that I have held up on the update. What a train wreck. When they work it all out will there be one good update to download or will it be the original with a lot of fixes to download? At this point it just doesn't seem worth it for all the headaches everyone is going through.

Still no real issues other than NetFlix but my battery life has decreased for some reason. Barely getting 14-15 hours with minimal usage when before I got over a day. And this is with a new battery as of early last week. Wonder if this battery is defective?

It's the 9th and there is no update as stated by BSD. But tomorrow it's been announced that 4G will get an upgrade on speed.

There are host of ills that occur when the parts of the Dalvik Virtual Machine gets stale bits between updates.

This is a problem with all Android phones, and they need to fix the update process.

Meanwhile - this is likely to cure most or all of the problems you're seeing -

If you've done the factory reset and are having syncing problems with Google, note that many Google accounts have been hacked. Check your Gmail outbox on the web, see if your account has been sending spam - if so, change your password and opt for two-step authentication.

As for additional rumored updates, Netflix has been public and specific that they're working on it.

http://phandroid.com/2011/06/07/net...h-gingerbread-on-the-evo-4g-fix-in-the-works/

From the article -

Netflix has confirmed that the new Gingerbread software is indeed to blame, but promises a fix is in the works.
That does not mean that a Gingerbread fix is in the works. And while the quote makes it look like Gingerbread's fault, the truth is the same for all apps that break due an update (remember, we saw this on Froyo). The dev had something not future-proof in his app, the dev (Netflix) needs to fix what's broken now.

marctronixx warning still in effect - let's not have this thread degrade, please.

Our motto is attack issues, not people.

The issue here is Gingerbread.

My issues...

GPS notification in tool bar showing GPS on while my stock settings gps widget shows it turned off.. so, its randomly turning gps on, so it appears.

Stock browser crashing TODAY while loading Google full main search page. Have to stop it before it crashes.

Random soft phone restarts, prob caused by incompatible apps (ie doesn't officially support GB 2.3.3)

Obviously Netflix and other apps not working, but, I don't blame that on Google, but would like Netflix to work asap.

All I can think off top of my head. Def needs some tweaks.

My stock browser began closing today as well. I was about to hard reset but then I tried your idea of stopping before google page load. I was finally able to hit menu & settings fast enough to switch home page. Browser seems to work fine as long as I don't go to google search page. It may be that" play the banjo strings" they have up. They might think its cool, but it F'd up my browser.

Hopefully the banjo will be gone tomorrow so I can see what happens.

Gps shows on when off.
Google voice app only plays first few seconds of message, then stops. Always have to hit play a second time.
Voice dial works, then it can't hear anything, then it works again, then it doesnt.
HTC screen constantly pops up now when I exit most apps.
Favorites and bookmarks widgets constanly refreshing when i slide to those screens.

Hopefully an update does come out today, i was looking forward to things that have been said ...

My opinion is that you'd be better off following the tips in the How to fix Froyo / Gingerbread thread than to hold out hope for an update 3 days later.

Sprint/HTC only rolls that way when there's a serious issue with the update.

The many people happy with it indicate that there are app issues and configuration issues and certainly install issues (that the above advice will fix).

The data - from ALL users here - doesn't show a serious update issue that's any different from when we got Froyo and fixed it ourselves.

Most of you are clearly having update/install issues and simply don't want to hard reset.

But - suppose I'm right. In such a case, another update/install will lead to more update/install issues, not fix them.

This is a known problem with how Android updates, not HTC, not Sprint and the factory reset is the known cure for those suffering it.

I'm just the messenger.
