Help Samsung indulge 2.3 firmware upgrade help?

bowner08

Lurker
So i have my Samsung Galaxy Indulge and was wondering if anyone has been able to update their firmware from 2.2 to 2.3 and if you dont mind post directions on how to do it ?

Dont keep youre hopes up as with any android we never know if we will get the next version upgrade until we start seeing it on our phones. A root then rooted update to gingerbread may come sooner than an official update if it ever comes.

It is extremely unlikely that an official 2.3 update will come. Id be willing to wager money that it never happens.

A couple friends that have Droid-X's(via Verizon) received updates to their software as well as an official Gingerbread release as a bonus. Which is exactly what should have been done when they created that OTA update(R910_EA29.EA17_to_EE07.ED15) a couple months back. Agreed?

Agreed but half of us are still waiting for that little update. We have pretty much given up on a gingerbread update.

You're talking about Metro here... not Verizon. Metro's philosophy is " you'll get the damn update when you get it ".

It would be nice to get timely updates, but not gonna happen.

There. Fixed that for you. ;)

In all fairness though, haven't a lot of carriers been late in adding their crapware back into new releases of Android, if they ever even release an update at all? I don't have any experience outside of Metro on Android, but from what I have read I understand this to be a problem with a lot of carriers. In fact, it's one of the things I foresee that may become a problem with the Android platform in general (vs. iPhone, etc.). I worry about that.

With android devices being so varied even within the same manufacturer it is rare that they get firmware updates. First google has to release an update then the phone makers must decide which phones they will actually update. Next comes the creation of the update and manufacturer testing. From there it gets passed down to the carrier and they review it and test it to make sure they are happy with it. Finally we are able to download it to our phones and install it.

All of that gives us a 6-18 month window of waiting and wondering if our phone will be updated at all. On the other hand with apple they create a new iOS version and test it. When they are happy and its ready connecting your iphone/ipod to itunes will tell you an update is available. Once intalled the only limit is the features compatible with your apple device version.

In the aproximately 15 months of owning my ipod touch it has been updated 4 times with more in its future. This Samsung Indulge however will probably NEVER receive an AndroidOS update.

so i have seemed to notice there is little to no support for this fine little gem (for metro and even less for cricket my provider) of a phone, I happened to receive it just a few months ago and while messing around with it, (trying to get a wpa_supplicant file that sees ad-hocs not for phone to laptop tethering but for computer to phone tethering) this caused wifi to quit working tried to set it back to factory using the reboot/factory setting and not only is everything still the way it was on my phone just without apps and contacts, (wifi not working) but now any file i try to download off the internet wont work. (firefox fixed this at lest) I tried using vol down power to reset the firmware and it just sits for hours on downloading screen. does anyone have at minimum the original wpa for a cricket indulge? a ad-hoc wpa for this phone would be even better.

thats why i love apples method when it comes to updates. Update comes and download it asap. Too bad Samsung drags their feet no matter what

Since that previous post my iPod has updated again and still no word from samsungs or metros camp about a firmware update. So sad.....

I think ... it goes like.. you get what you pay for... i mean since there is more androids than iphones out there .. aren't we suppose to get updates faster ??

The problem is that there is no incentive for manufacturers to update the phone. Manufacturers have to do the release by the way because the of the customized UI and other software they put on the phone. They would rather you buy the new phone. Phone carriers have the same disincentive since they get to extend your contract when you buy a new phone.

AT&T was so desperate for the iPhone they let Apple have control of the update process and presume this carried over to Verizon. Supposedly Microsoft has the same deal except that carriers can delay the release for only one update cycle. Microsoft's problem is that have yet to start updating regularly. Google has none of this - all they do is develop the OS and hope manufacturers update.

Anyway - we might see an update, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I'd put my money on the guys doing custom ROMs (I'm hoping for Ice Cream Sandwich)

don't hold your breath on getting the update they haven't released the 2.3 for the lg optimus m and that has been confirmed months ago

i was wondering the same thing, since metro apparently takes a while to update the os is there any way to do it manually through a rooted phone?

metro philosophy for updates is Buy a new phone $499 and sgn this paper saying you cant return it if you dont like it or if something is wrong no money back

Have you ever read their return policy? I'm guessing not since they give you 7 days to return a new phone for a full refund. There is a catch that you cannot use an hour of talk time, however if you reset the phone to factory they'll never know since they look at the phones internal minute counter to determine how much you have used.
