In-call volume in Gingebread (2.3.3) (too loud)

all,

since upgrading from froyo to gingebread my in-call volume is too loud, even on the lowest setting. I've tried an app (sound manager) to get this fixed but it's show as already on the lowest setting also within the app. is it possible at all to fix this problem via an app? any other solutions?

any hints appreciated.

I have resigned to holding the phone further away from my ear... It appears that most people don't find it to be a problem. I guess the two of us didn't spend enough of our childhood listening to iPods.

I have the same problem and it is rather extreme, everyone around me can hear the other party and the volume is so loud that I have to have it almost a phone length from my ear.

Anyone have a solution for this yet?

Ok figured this out, so if it helps anyone here is what worked for me. Please note that you are messing with the device internal settings so be careful.

Enter phone Service Mode - by entering this into your dialer:
*#*#197328640#*#*

You should now see:
MAIN MENU

There should be 6 options here and one of them, number 5 is:
AUDIO (press it)
* if you have to go back a step do not use the phones back key, use the menu key (bottom left :) and select Back there.

You now should see 8 more options and the first one should say:
HANDSET (press it)

Now press option 1
Volume

There should now be 7 options, press no. 1.
SRC Speech RX Volume

Here are lvl 0 through 5 and this is what I did:
Changed the 0_lvl : from 72 to 62 and then hit the back key (bottom right corner of phone :)

This worked for me hope it helps.

Wow, thank you Sind, what a clever person. This was an issue for me but is now fixed thanks to your advise. Many thanks.

You are welcome, glad to help

I have noticed since this happened that the volume has changed again by it self, and to solve this I only turned the volume all the way up and all the way down again, with the rocker button on the side of the phone, and that snapped it right back.

Is it just me or are there other people also who have not noticed any change in call volume after upgrading to 2.3.3!

Also strangely the code mentioned doesnt work when I try it in the dialer!

Initially, there was no change in the call volume. However, since yesterday, the volume has become unbearably loud. And unfortunately, the code which sind suggested for the service menu did not work. I found this weird because every other code mentioned at Samsung Galaxy S (GT-i9000) Secret Codes Rexton270's Blog worked fine.

Maybe they disabled the service menu for phones in India? Or some other code exists I guess.

Hi neiljsaldanha not sure if this helps but try to enter the code this way.

*#197238640#

And I had the same problem, initially there was no problem and then bang and loudness galore :)

Bless,
Sindri

With the initial code that I typed, the characters simply vanished from the dialler screen and nothing happened.

When I typed in *#197238640#, again nothing happened but the characters remained on screen. I then hit the dial button on the bottom left corner and it gave a dialog window saying 'USSD code running' and finally got a pop up saying 'Connection problem or invalid MMI code'.

Hey Sindri,

Even though I wasn't able to activate the service menu, I tried this option out (increasing the volume to maximum whilst in a call and then lowering it to the least possible) and it worked. So thanks!

Neil.

no man what he means is that the in-call volume is too high. Or to simply put it, when he's speaking on the phone, the person at the other end sounds really loud, even though he's set the in-call volume to the least possible..

I have the exact same problem and can not for the life of me figure out why it isn't working... even switched from Reflex S to Leedroid but to no avail..
Oh, one more thing ... I think the in call volume was fine until, one day, I used a bluetooth headset. Since then, it's not loud enough. Even tried setting the volume high in bluetooth then disconnecting it, but doesn't seem to be that easy. Oh and I wiped the freaking thing before every ROM, so I really don't get how the issue can be persisting -.-

Noone with an idea?
How about telling me where the audio config files in Android are? At least I could try changing the config files using astro and nano to get my in-call volume back to the good old times!

Hi Everyone,

Since I have updated ANdroid 2.1 to 2.3.3 Gingerbread, I have the same annoying experience that in-call volume on MIN is extremely loud. Phone/headset is unsuable.

Do you have any solution for Sony Ericsson X10i??

Much appreciate any relialbe idea.

CHeers,
sb

I experience the same issue since upgrading from Froyo to Gingerbread. The volume is unacceptably loud. The solution mentioned above actually works (in my case it was changing 5_lvl to 50), but is just a temporary one. Did anybody find a permanent solution meanwhile?
