Considering my 1st android phone, help

My wife and I are both considering getting our 1st android phones. There are so many phone choices, that it's a little overwhelming. Can someone help me with info and pros/cons for Sprint's android collection?

I want something on the higher end of the spectrum. Some I've been considering:

  • Nexus S 4G (Assuming I get one that can hold a signal. I like that it's sure to get all OS updates straight from Google, don't like that it doesn't have expandable memory)
  • Evo 3D (not really interested in the 3D, but it has great specs)
  • Epic 4G (being a year old, how long will it still be supported)
  • Echo (don't need 4G since it's not in my area. like the idea of dual screens, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it just a gimmick, and won't be supported much longer)
My wife probably want something lower on the spectrum (internet, email, basic apps, etc). What's a good cheaper phone that will continue to be supported? (It's hard to find info on the lower end phones.)

There are about three or more great options coming between now and August. Personally, I would wait another month or two. You'll have the latest and greatest this way... EVO 3D, Samsung Galaxy S 2 (Within), Motorola Photon 4G, Optimus Slide, HTC Kingdom, and a new LG phone I hear. There will probably be even a few more. Good things are on the way here... between now and August. If you need something now, EVO 4G, Epic, EVO Shift, Nexus S 4G still have good support. But if you're locking in a 2 yr contract... wait a month and just get the best... one of these.

Thanks BenChase7 & marctronixx, I had heard of the Photon, but not the others. I'll have to do some research.

Any suggestions for a lower end android phone for my wife?
 
I have an Evo Shift. It may be considered low end, but it definitely isn't. It was just updated to android 2.3, has great battery life for an android and is made by HTC, which means the build is generally as good as you can get in a smartphone. I really am happy with it. I think it can be purchased for like $50. All around awesome phone. I think she would be happy with it.;)

I would recommend the EVO Shift 4G for her, although its actually a fairly high end phone, the price will (or may have already) come down due to the blockbusters just around the corner. You should be able to get it for a steal.
 
Just an FYI best buy has the Nexus S 4G for 50 bucks on 2 year plan. So if you want pay 200 bucks to get the latest and greatest you can, but if you want nice mid range phone at steal then I'd go for the Nexus.
 
I got an Evo 4G for my wife and a Nexus S 4G for myself.

I tried to covince my wife to wait for the Evo 3D, but she needed a phone ASAP. Worked out well though. A year later, and the Evo 4G is still one the best in the business. Sprint and HTC really did a great job with it.

And the Nexus S 4G is just an all around great phone.
 
Evo4g's are down to $49 at BB with a contract. That's as high end of a low end phone that you're going to find.

For yourself I'd suggest a evo3d and just ignore the 3d part like I plan to do. HTC has been amazing this last year with the evo and I hope they continue to impress me with the e3d. It has the makings of an amazing phone.

I'd skip the epic due to support and hardware issues unless you plan to root it the first week. With a nice custom rom it's a good phone but you shouldn't have to hack it to make it work. Only to make it work better.
