3dEvo: Pre-release miscellany

ah ok well i havent added any ofmy contacts to gmail i do sync with facbook so can i still upload then to gmail and would the facbook contact upload as well if i do?

If you set up backup assistant, you probably backed up your contact info without even knowing it. You can check by logging in to your gmail account and checking your contacts.

Err...sorry.

Backup assistant is on the phone. You got prompted with it when you first logged in with your gmail account on the phone, at activation and any time you may have blanked the phone to factory settings.

Well - with the number of reviews mentioning a potential issue at the very least I would expect them to work with the reviewer if there was a simple work around. I've seen companies take both approaches (ignore the issue; public debunk the issue) with success.

Clearly if this is an issue and they ignore it they will have more than a few upset consumers which might do quite a bit of damage in the long run.

So while I see your point of view i'm not really sure I am in complete agreement.

should they do this when the phone is not released? there are going to be negative reviews on these things.. htc should not say anything until the masses get it and provide proper feedback.

all my opinion which may not be yours.

When they bought back my EVO they let me keep the 8 gig card and the charger.. I have an extra charger now... But then I had to rebuy another EVO cause I couldn't wait 3 weeks to be with out a good phone and my old Lotus wasn't cutting it. I thought the 3D was going to be out sooner when I sold mine back to Sprint for 150. But when I rebought another EVO for 150 I was told I have 30 days and need to have everything that came with it receipt box and all.

If you trade in your evo 4g at the sprint store, can you keep the memory card? I'm guessing no but it would be awesome..

Many pre-review blogs said the beast would have 1080p, before the spec was on their website.

They screwed up.

At least they're not delivering half-baked 1080p.

Not sure why anyone wants 1080p, but it's your (and everyone's) right to have that expectation.

My (unpopular) opinion about 1080p on _any_ smartphone here, to save anyone asking - http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-3d/335824-3devo-pre-release-miscellany-28.html#post2836846
It wasn't just the blogs though. It was also Sprint at the CTIA demo, and both Sprint and HTC's websites also listed 1080p in the specs. That is where the blogs were getting their information.

If you recall, one of the bugs people were saying was on the Evo 3D at Google's IO, was the phone would crash when you used the 2D/3D switch. So I am pretty sure they had every intention to launch the phone with 1080p, but they couldn't get it working correctly. Rather than delay the phone again, they just removed the 1080p, and will likely add 1080p in an update after they get it stable.

That's just the thing. Maybe others wouldn't be, but I'd actually be entirely ok with that, I just wish that they wouldn't make up some BS "Typo" nonsense and feed it to us like we're morons. It was never a typo, but was removed for some reason or another (likely not working adequately). That's fine, but be up front about it.

Edit: Woot, 200th post!

This is what I was thinking too.

Ask them to keep the 3vo's new SD card, and put yours in instead.

Should cause no trouble for them.

Keeping it outright - don't think so, a part is a part is a part, they'll want the full set.

Just tell them that the old one burned out and you had to purchase this one. SD cards fail fairly often so this isn't something they should really question and actually happened with mine.

ok so I just got back from Sprint and I'm switching from Verizon to Sprint and the Evo 3D!! :D I can't wait! But, I got told that the Evo 3D instead of coming out on the 24th, is coming out on the 28th. Did anybody else get told this?

Nope. I have an appt for the 24th, and I'll be there with bells on at about 0745. Muaaaaaahaaaaaaaahaaaahaaahaaa! :D 4 days (& counting) to Pre becomes post!

should I call my store on the 24th just incase?

Call your store again and reiterate that Sprint has announced the Evo3D launch date as 6/24. As such, you want them to confirm you can get the device on the 24th, if they have adequate supply that is.

If you want any prayer of getting one on the 24th however, you need to make sure you have a pre-order, or are waiting out in front of the store on 6/24 before they open so you are one of the first people in line.

While I'm not expecting the demand to be as bad as it was for the original Evo 4G last year, I'm still expecting that nearly everyone will sell out of their initial supply shortly after launch.

it might have to do with the type of sprint store it is. i know for sure the corporate stores are getting them on the 24th, but i have talked to a couple 3rd party stores who told me the 26th and 28th.

the thing is, this is a corporate store, plus I have it on pre-order. Everybody I talked to there said "It isn't coming out on the 24th for stores but it is online." No matter how much I told them everybody else is getting the Evo 3D on the 24th in stores they still didn't believe me.

When I pre-ordered at the Sprint store to get the port in credit (I'm a soon-to-be-ex-VZW customer, just like you), I told the customer rep that I was there to pre-order the Evo 3D because I heard the port in date was extended to July 23rd.

She was very meek in her annunciation, and I swear she said "It'll be released on July 24th, just so you're aware that this phone won't be available until then"

I hesitated, and assumed I heard her wrong, and replied "Yeah, so in a week?" (this was on Friday)

She said: "Yes, July 24th"

I was so horribly confused, but nodded, thanked her, and paid for my $50 gift card. We'll see what happens on this Friday.

Edit: As an addendum to that story. When I went to VZW to make sure I was clear to transfer over, I think I had to explain to the customer rep there about 5-12 times that I am a VZW customer switching to Sprint, and wanted to make sure my number could be transferred. He kept on thinking I was a Sprint customer trying to switch over to VZW. I had to pull out my VZW phone and say. No, I am a Verizon Wireless customer. I am going to Sprint with this number (had my info on the phone displayed). I want to make sure it's a seamless process. Is there anything I need to do? At that point a manager looked over my account, because he saw how I was losing my patience (trying very hard to keep it). And he confirmed to me the process and how it's seamless.

My faith in wireless company's customer reps had dropped about 15 points.
