Questions about Google Voice & a TF

Hello everyone,
I am completely new to Google Voice, and I would like to test it out with my TF. First, I have some questions about the usability of GV. I have my GV number, and verified with my phone, but after this point, I don't know what to enable while still being private. What I mean is if I forward texts messages, and calls from GV number to my cell phone, would they caller be able to see my cell phone's number instead of my GV's number? Is it possibility to find my cell phone number through GV number? How do I call out / text out through my cell phone using my GV number? Do I need an application for this? If so, should I use the default / most popular applications for this? And how does this work? Using my wifi connection instead of my cell phone internet?

I have not loaded GV on my Transformer, I just bookmarked the website. I find it more useable from the computer. My phone alerts me for my other stuff.

I use both numbers on my phone, my original number and my GV number. Customers are given my GV number, and family and friends get the actual number. You cannot see the original number when using google voice.

By forwarding texts the only way they might see your original number is if you reply from the phones client. If you use the GV App for texting and not Handscent or the like no one will see your original number. The GV App handles the texts when they text your GV number. If they text your original number it is handled by the normal messenging app on the phone. The GV App also will handle the calls, I have mine set up to ask before every call which I want to use, GV or my normal number.

Hahaha, never heard of this phrase before, but I like it "clear as mud". Anywho, sounds like what I was thinking, and thank you for include your own personal usage for GV number. It gives me a better mental image of how to use it. I, too am currently using it from my internet browser. It sounds likd the app is a must though.

I heart the GV app, when I'm at home or work it picks up the slack since Sprint's reception blows so bad and I can know not only when I recieve a txt, it keeps it in order time stamp wise too.

Ditto for me at work. I work twenty feet underground where reception just doesn't happen. I agree about the time stamps and sometimes if you don't com above ground and "phone home" at some point in the middle of the day, the system will just drop some texts out of the system completely. So GV has been very good. At work, I run a Chrome browser with the GV checker extension and forward my GV# to my desk. I don't have to be out of touch at all.

The only drawback I have found is that GV will cause your original phone number to ring a few more times before it goes to voicemail, this sometimes annoys the callers. If they call the GV number that doesn't happen.

I use GV with GrooveIP on my Optimus-V, mainly for Wifi use since I get no cell service at home. I am thinking about getting a Transformer, has anyone tried GrooveIP with GV on it? I only hand out my GV#, except 1 or 2 family members get my real cell#.
