Root [ROM][WIP] CM6-Ascend (CyanogenMod 6) Current: 04212011 (Cricket/MetroPCS MMS WORKING!)

I have the Huawei Ascend and using ADW, not a pro at this rooting thing, but at least I didn't brick my phone. I have used it since April, happy with it, but it's just really slow. I don't know what to do to it, I don't have a whole lot on the phone, but as an example, if I try to play Angry birds, it's takes forever to throw a bird and knock stuff down, so I gave up. Also, if there is a call, I slide to answer, and it's slow, seems to have to swipe more than once, sometimes I miss the call entirely. Then if I have an emergency, I think I would be dead before I could make a call. I just need some help in speeding this up, as I said, newbie to all of this! Please help! :confused::confused:

So ironically, I downloaded the files for CM7 (currently on CM6 and was running amazing). But I wanted to see what all the fuss was about CM7. BUT when transfering my files from my PC to my Phone, the Phone froze just after I hit unmount SD card on my android. I had to pull the battery as the phone became completely unresponsive.

After doing this, A notification popped up "Blank SD cards, or the SD card containts incorrect files" something to that nature. the phone started with the inability to read ANY sd cards (tried 2 different ones). I then attempted to do a factory reset, as I could not figure out how to fix the problem. THe phone now does one of two things.

THe phone displcays the boot screen, however i can feel the haptic feed back from the lockscreen sliders (move my figner from the left to the right and can feel it vibrate when it unlocks), and the volume buttons make noise.

Second thing, the phone starts, but there is no home application (Guessing because when I did the factory reset to try and fix the USB problem, no home 0app came with the original rom?) Was running LP version of CM6.

Now what do I do? No SD card access, no home screen access. if/when the phone starts up, i can recieve text message, dunno about calls yet.

Ironic that when I try and get the files to upgrade my phone to CM7, my phone blows up... ugh... Any help? or am I done for?
 
If there was some way to install a rom from ur computer to ur phone, that would be amazing. otherwise, I dunno how I would do it.
 
I've tried dl'ing and installing cm6 several times now with no luck...

I think I'm getting a bad dl... when i try from stock browser, it says not compatible. So I got Dolphin, tried again, dl worked, but filename is just a bunch of random-looking letters/numbers, and filesize is only 22.39kb... This can't be right. Is there another link other than the one on uploading.com?

is you downloading with wifi on, if not thats the problem right there.
 
I'm pretty sure I had wifi on... I'm gonna try again right now. I'll update this post with the results.

Update:
Tried dl'ing with wifi on... and it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference. As of now, it still says "waiting for data connection". Also when I started the dl the "save as" box popped up and the filename was "==QV7SOMgP45QdW7Sg|xv2vBorVNDQuLpoHSCPlO4OBQvNoBKMSsItt6znEgEta9oI0|mflO2dBdv6GZTkczD8SzF8|nA-tBUiEG".

I'll update again when/if the dl actually finishes.

And yes, before anyone has to ask... My wifi is connected, I'm sitting right next to my router and have an "excellent" signal.

Update:
Still waiting for data connection... I don't get it, I'm using the f'ing data connection right now. I can search the forums, browse the web, use the facebook appear, anything that requires a data connection works fine except this dl...

Thank you again to all the great people here. I really do appreciate all the help/resources you guys offer. This is just frustrating.

Update:
After 20 minutes of "waiting for data connection", I give up for now. I'll try again when I get home tonight. Might have something to do with the way they have the wifi set up here at work.

I'll post how that goes later.
 
Erase everything with clockwork mod, anything that says wipe, delete, etc.. You will know you've deleted everything when you turn phone back on, and it goes to the second screen, and stops. Download fresh copies of cm6, gapps, and clockwork to computer. You should have a card reader avaliable. put card in card reader, plug into computer, format the card, and put the downloaded files on it. Put card back in phone, and do the three button salute to get clockwork mod running. Use clockwork mod to install cm6, after go back to clockwork mod, and install gapps.
 
I know, broken record, when you have phone running, go to market, and download autorotation control,( make sure you have right app). lock memory in home. Also make sure you have a google account.
 
I don't have a card reader... yet.

Also I think the dl link on the wiki has home bad. No matter what browser, phone, pc, or mac, I still get the same result... Is that the only place to dl it from?

Update:

Ok... I finally got the dl to work on a Mac. Now, how do I move them onto the phone? I have never really used a Mac before, it's not like Windows. LOL. When I plug it in to the USB, iPhoto opens up and under "Devices" my phone is listed as "NO NAME". But it won't allow me to move the files to it... When I go to Finder, I can't seem to find it anywhere in there.
 
so i just flashed cm6 the latest build' (not my first time doing this)
but after i installed the Google apps and stuff, i wanted to turn on wifi to download Tit Bu (Titanium backup) but when i tried to turn on wifi through the settings, it said "turning on..."
then 5 secs after that it gives me an "Error"
is there a way to fix this, so i can have my wifi back :/
 
Ok. So I went and bought a card reader, and a new Class 10 16gb sd card... I go to hook it up to the Mac where I have dl'd the .zip's, planning to move them onto the new card, and it tells me it's read only. I think I'm stuck with Icarus for now. Or I suppose I could just skip cm6 and try cm7... I just wanted to try them all out, but this is obviously not working. I had no problem installing Icarus, took less than 20 minutes and I'm a total noob at this.

just use the card reader and put it in your computer and move the .zip files to your sdcard and than put the sd card back in the phone once you have the files on there.
 
Like I said... it says it is read-only... I don't know how to change that. I'm using a Mac, if that makes any difference.

well if you look on the card adapter you will see i little slide thingy, and its probably push to lock, just slide it the other way and problem solve.

I just want to say thank you for the suggestions, you guys are great. I'm just apparently too stupid to do this. I had no problem installing Icarus, but nothing but problems since I started trying to get cm6.

On a side note... my soda exploded all over my phone earlier. Lol.
 
after installing CM6 I have noticed that the camera shutter button no longer works you now have to tap the screen which I find quite awkward my question is there a way to map the shutter back to were it should be I have the ADW version of CM6 and I have been going through the settings looking for a way to fix this problem but have not found it yet.
some one please help if you have and answer:confused:

soda...that sucks, but i try and stay away from macs...they are real picky about things.

you might have had a bad flash but look threw the cm6 thread...
 
Yeah, I usually avoid Mac's too... They're not very friendly to me. LOL. I was only using it because it seemed to be the only thing I could get the files to dl correctly on. But I finally got them to dl onto my PC, in about 3 minutes I will be ready to flash cm6. :D

Got CM6 up and running. Once I was actually able to get a successful dl and a working card reader, it was a piece of cake.
