Maps for bicycle touring

Hi,

I'm going for a one week bike tour and to make everything as relaxed as possible, I am looking for a software that:
1) Caches maps for offline use (no data roaming abroad + battery saving)
2) Shows my position on the map
3) Shows (imported (i.e. pre-calculated) or calculated) route over the map.

I know that MapDroyd can do 1 & 2, but somehow it sucks other ways (at least I didn't like it).

BikeRoute can do 2 & 3 but it doesn't help because of online requirement(?).

Any other?

Take a look at ViewRanger.
It work for my: Maps on SD card, records and views my track and GPX as routes import.

Harry2, can you somehow store the OSM maps to SD?

Only offline maps I could download to my phone were very coarse (~4MB). I would need maps for Finland and Sweden.

It sounds very interesting.Yes you can use ViewRanger. It works without mobile coverage as its maps are stored on the phone. It will display maps, record tracks, navigate, show points-of-interest and display its panorama without a mobile network connection. Toyota newport beach

Local people create that OSM maps of their locations. Not much people in large locations = course maps

You could use ViewRangers premium maps. Maybe you'll need only certain regions of Finland and Sweden. So the project wouldn't so expensive

Hi fellows,

I am going to take a whole summer bicycle trip in Europe. Please recommend me offline maps which fulfill the most of my requirements:
1. contain preferably every road suitable for bicycle
2. contain places of interest
3. contain information on relief, preferably a contour-map
4. contain positions of camping sites
5. contain railways and stations
6. contain probably locations of shops
7. preferably whole Europe or countries of western and central Europe
I am going to use it offline on Samsung Galaxy Ace (Android 2.2) on a 32 GB micro SD card. I need a solar charger also.
