Root New "Bugless" 2.01+2.1 apps ROM...

I haven't followed that massive thread over there too well, but does anyone know why he got rid of the WiFi tether (around 6 or 7) and if he plans on putting it back on? I'd certainly ask over there but don't have an account. And, if it's still there, can someone show me how to use it?
 
i just installed one of teh various 2.1 versions yes! but the real one! not just some 2.0.1 with 2.1 it is sooo easy now!

There isn't any "the real one" 2.1 ROMs out there. :confused: They are all ported over from some other phone. The truth is, for the time-being, there is probably little to no difference between installing a 2.0.1 ROM with all the 2.1 goodies, versus installing one of the 2.1 ROMs out there.

I have very high expectations for what the "real" 2.1 ROM is going to be like for the DROID. I'm hoping it blows all of these current 2.1 ROMs out of the water. Meaning, that it is very optimized for our specific phone. I'll probably be totally disappointed... :o

Nothing to be scared of ... it's just that there are about 10 of them out there to choose from. And I find it peculiar that some of us have such different experiences with the same ROM. For instance, my favorite 2.1 ROM is from humancycborg. But some guys thought it was laggy, or buggy, or whatever. You just have to find which one works best for you. THAT is the real challenge. For now, I'm content with the latest 2.0.1 ROMs that have hit the scene. Checkout THIS THREAD for details.

I upgraded to .8.1 and I must not understand which gallery is loaded. I thought the fun one was the multi-touch one with all the cool sorting and viewing functions, but it's just a big bunch of tumbnails that are multitouch.

I backed up but don't see that on one of my backed up apps with Astro.

Damnit...

I still have .5, but that would require a re-load of my apps, no?

The multitouch gallery is the one that's loaded. It supports pinch-zoom.

The 'fun' one you're describing is the 2.1 gallery. It has nicer 3D effects, but does not support pinch-zoom.

As for reverting back to an older version, if you don't have a nandroid backup with all your apps loaded, you'll have to reload them.

It's a pretty good habit to just make a backup once you have everything in working order, so that if you ever break it, you can just go back!

OK, I do have a nandroid backup. Did it before I moved from 0.5 to 0.8.

But all I really want to do is enable the 2.1 gallery. If I restore from that backup, I assume that I will restore to the 0.5 ROM, yes? Is there a way to have 0.8 running with the 2.1 gallery?

Yeah, just find the apk and install the 2.1 gallery. It's available at alldroid.

Well, it fixed a pretty big bug, which was the space issues in /system that was preventing some apps from working properly.

Also, the new interface is pretty nice looking. About to update, seeing as the only thing keeping me from doing 0.8.1 was fixed.
 
I've just loaded 8.2 and it has a very nice look, and as noted took care of the 8.1 memory issues that I posted on at alldroid.

Anyone who loaded 8.1 (and possible 8.0?) really needs to update to 8.2 ASAP.
 
I'm having an issue where I cannot make a nandroid backup of my v0.8...

Well, I'm going to put my faith in the update to not screw anything up. Crossing my fingers...

Hmmm...I made a nandroid of 8 on mine, odd.

The update clears /system first, so that should clear anything odd out of the way.
 
I just uninstalled a few apps I didn't want in the last update. If I update to this one, I'll have to uninstall those same apps again huh. I'll do a nandroid backup just in case.

Downloaded and installed only to brick it. Restored from the backup I just made. I'll leave it at that.

Well, it was hanging at /data. Anyways, the update worked just fine, and I can even make backups again. All in all, I'm a happy customer.

There was an issue with the 8.2 that would cause the phone to hang at the Moto screen. Pete notes it is fixed and is in the process of uploading now.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD YET UNTIL PETE INDICATES IT HAS BEEN FIXED.
 
Weird...mine is running fine on 8.2! I've rebooted three times since installing it (went into recovery to do a nandroid of it, and another couple times to test that it was working OK).

Others have posted success as well...must be an intermittent issue. Glad he caught it quickly.
