K9 for school email?

Been trying all morning/afternoon to get K9 to work on IMAP for my school email. the address is "me@student.gsu.edu" and my schools website refers to it as "live@edu". We access it on our desktops/laptops from OWA but according to the univ, student (and ONLY students) dont have exchange.

I am coming from BB and experienced a similar problem when i first got it, but was able to fix it.

also, i have successfully set it up with the regular email app on my Inspire 4G but really want it to be able to PUSH.

Settings provided by OWA:

IMAP:
server: pod51000.outlook.com
security: SSL
port:993

SMTP:
server: same
security: TSL
port: 587

Are you having problems sending or receiving?

For me I had issues with sending only. What I did to fix this was I routed all my school email's sent mail through my gmail email account server but put the reply-to email as me@schoolnetwork.ca.

However, sometimes people reply to my gmail so it's not a foolproof solution. If anyone else can think of a solution let OP and me know please !:)

IIRC ActiveSync is available for Live email accounts if you want push. Google for instructions. You'll need an app that supports ActiveSync. I'm not sure if K-9 does or not.

Accounts that support IMAP IDLE should be push though. What makes you say that it isn't push? There are a lot of people that don't understand what push is and merely assume that push = instant delivery. Instant delivery is typical of push but push is really defined by the server initiating the email transfer to the client. Even if the server is pushing, email delivery times can be affected by other variables.

That's correct. Live@edu isn't Exchange.

Im having trouble setting K9 up for both sending AND recieving

I tried the GMAIL approach as you described but it failed miserably-----> it spent 20 minutes populating my Inspire with 10 months of email, but then i sent test emails from my yahoo account that never made it to my GMAIL at all....so i deleted the connection between the two

I was saying that the stick HTC/Android client doesnt do push...even if you have IMAP....I will, however google for those activesync instructions. Its not the biggest of deals but yea.

THANKS

***UPDATE*** Googled ActiveSync like you said ("ActiveSync live@edu) used first link....worked like a charm!!
