I would back up everything just in case. By the way i thought you said you had already updated to gingerbread via kies a while ago but had a problem sending sms with packet data on????

I did but rolled back to froyo because of it,I cant remember though if when I updated with Kies I lost everything or not as I had also flashed and I know that resets but honestly can't remember with Kies.

Hi,i wanna know how to update frimware OTA with phone. . . .not with kies or odin.i am new to android . . . .cant we do da updates widout pc. .if not i am gonna get a nokia

It seems to be possible with 2.3.3, but there were no official update after that, so I never tryed it in action.

Just updated to 2.3.3 via kies and it kept all my apps etc.
and @deepakskht, after the initial update to gingerbread all others will be available OTA. Seems strange you would choose a dying phone brand with outdated OS based on the decision involving having to rarely plug phone in for 5 mins though.

3 networks update is out today. Not every uk carrier. Dont think vodafones update is out yet, so talk mobile (it may piggy back of vodafone - but wont be as advanced as them at updates etc - you get what u pay for imho) will probably be a while off yet.
I would contact talk mobile and ask them if they are releasing their own version. If they are wait paitently or if not download a leaked rom. (beware the bugs reported in the leaked roms are not present in my official update) its your choice however!
I'm pretty sure that Talk Mobile don't brand any firmware (they're part of Carphone Warehouse which generally only deal in unbranded handsets) so their handset is almost certainly stock (like mine). Of course since the UK stock firmware isn't out yet that's not much help but I think it should be soon now.
I have a sim-free Galaxy Ace, I normally use Orange network. I put a "3" sim in to see if that would give me the update but nothing. I put my Orange sim back in and nothing, updated KIES and still nothing lol.
Looks like I will have to wait.

I had a talk with Samsung Live Chat Support today.
All that they said was that they do not have any confirmed info about the gingerbread update in INDIA.
But it will be available very soon.
Looks like we will have to wait some more time.
You'll need to rollback to the stock ROM
You can do so by downloading the appropriate firmware from samfirmware.com (you need to register to be able to download... don't worry it's free!!!
)
