Hi all I have a Desire S and want to put movies on there. I think I have to convert to MP4?? SO just a couple of questions.......
1 what is the best converter to do the job?
2 will my handset play xvid (so no converting is reqd)

Many thanks.

mp4 is just a container, you need to convert with an h264 baseline codec.

Use Handbrake, it's free and will automatically use h264. Just make sure you set the resolution to the width of your phone's resolution, then scale the height keeping the aspect ratio. Then in audio, select 2 channel mp3, and under advanced, uncheck CABAC. Also, you will have to play with the bitrate to see what works for you. Generally, 1000-3000kbps will be fine for the phone. Anything more then that you wont notice the difference on the phone's small screen.

Your phone may play xvid using RockPlayer or QQPlayer. It depends on how it was encoded.

For Handbrake, you can use the conversion Guide in my signature.

@Sitlet,
It is probably best not to use mp3 audio in mp4 container for Android. Instead, AAC-LC codec would be nicely compatible for trouble free playback on Android.
