Root v1.1 up for testing ***Umph Kernelv1 Now With Oddball***

Download Umph Kernelv1 test2 zip reverted back to v1 config (cept what was making phones not boot) hopefully this will fix reboots and performance drops

Just got a reboot...

EDIT:
ANOTHER reboot! Won't make it past mounting of SD card, same problem I had with doomlord's kernel. Reverting back to test 14 to see if it reboots in same place.

EDIT 2:
Test 14 is working good. No reboot at all. So not sure what happened there...

Not sure what is taking place. Both these kernels and the ideos v02 kernal give me subpar quadrant scores... like 1100 at stock and 1443 at 1.5 GHz... the twisted test 11 kernel was giving me 1893 stock speed! Something isn`t being handled right somewhere... linpack looks about right at each speed however... is the GPU doing something weird?

Stock I got 1,783 and at 1.9GHz I got 2,431 just now on test 14 because that's the most stable one for me right now.

I downloaded a version that was up earlier this afternoon I believe test 14 either way it was 2 hours and 45 minutes ago so what ever was up on the OP at that time.... Any who I have absolutely no problems whatsoever. Overclocked to 1900 and got a 2556 on quadrant, as well as a little over 51mflops in linpack. Wifi works just fine phone runs beautifully, min 122 stays put, govs stay put. Haven't tested GPS or bluetooth but will have to just beauce I know doom kernel borked bluetooth. My only worry is bad battery life and frying the cpu, otherwise this is just incredible... *knock on wood...

Also I just want to add That before applying this I used anycut to make a shortcut to hidden menu (because I wanted to know what it was and why it was eating my cpu) and it ended up factory resetting my phone :( afterwards wiped cache and dalvik cache attempting to restore nandroid that failed due to MD5 mismatch :( So I gave up on that came home and found this kernel so I flashed it right over the doom kernel v1 and this is what I've got so far.

Also upon checking just now, bluetooth seems just fine

So if you set the governor to say Scary with max 1900 and min 122, then press power button to lock phone, then unlock it, that the settings remain the same? Mine will revert to ondemand max 1900 min 245...test 14 kernel.

P.S. It should be in the file name what version you are using.

I flashed the Umph Kernel v1 and it works great. The only problem is that using setcpu sometimes it will revert back to 245 mhz min, 1024 max. But running on performance at 1900mhz i got over 60 mflops on linpack and a 2800+ quadrant score! This kernel is awesome though and stable. And everything works so far. You should look into adding controllable undervolting and the ability to disable states like alot of the captivate kernels use, and maybe check into compiling zram modulesfor use with this kernel! Just things to check into, oh and the v (R) scheduler seems to be a very good i/o scheduler.

EDIT: I am on software version .39 and Umph v1 booted fine and runs very good! Dude like +600 to you man!

EDIT 2: Dude you should hook this kernel up with the voltage control that was implemented in doom v.2 release and maybe add some of the others things like the cfq scheduler, the cdrom feature would be awesome to mount iso's, the thumbtree extensions would probably boost performance, and i like the idea of ext2, 3 and 4 support which i know ours already supports ext3 at least, and some of the other stuff is worth looking into!

Yep stays right where I set it. The file on my SD card says umph-kernelv1

I just installed v1.2 and everything works fine except wifi. It's on but doesnt work and when i go to the wireless settings it FC's.

pardon my ignorance, but why would you want to overclock this phone? It's more than fast enough as is, all overclocking would do it turn the already crappy battery life into absolutely terrible battery life.

I would assume you downloaded this one:
Download Umph Kernelv1 zip

I'm still seeing mine revert. Umphv1 and test 14 were the same anyways...just renamed. So not sure why yours works.

Like I said in my second paragraph there were things done to my phone prior to installation that I had not planned on doing originally. Maybe something there just set things straight!?

Factory Reset, Cache/Dalvik Cache wiped, installed over Doom Kernel???

Race to Idle

Current processors are quite good about saving power when idle; so much so that many show a behavior around power saving that surprises many people.

This behavior, called race-to-idle, is best explained with a simplified example:

Lets take a typical commercially available processor that consumes 34 Watts when running at full speed, and 24 Watts when running at half speed and 1 Watts when idle (using frequency and voltage scaling using P-states).

On this processor, we're decoding one second of a MP3 file or some HDTV media every second. This decoding takes 0.5 seconds at half speed, and, consequently, 0.25 seconds at full speed.

The energy consumption for one second is

Half speed: 0.5s * 24W + 0.5s * 1W = 12.5 Joules
Full speed: 0.25s * 34W + 0.75s * 1W = 9.25 Joules
Even though the above example is simplified from reality, the same paradigm tends to hold for real systems: It's generally better to run as fast as you can so that you can be idle longer.

P.S. Sorry for the double post

Hey, I tried out the 1.2 kernel, I'm lucky it seems I can overclock to 1.9 stable, but my data connection doesn't work! I rebooted a few times, tried airplane mode, nothing worked to get the 3g back up. Reverted back to the stock kernel and my 3g came back. Any ideas?

Try v1

hey i was messing around with my cpu settings and i noticed something weird but good.... you know how some people have trouble getting the govenors to stick after unlocking? well that happened to me, so i tried "no-frills cpu control" and they stick after unlock now! even if i reboot! :D so for you that have those problems use "no-frills cpu control"

I'll have to give this a try and see what happens, I switched to SETCPU yesterday just to see, and then went back to stock

**EDIT**

Your right, it sticks!!

No frills works!! keeps the settings in tact.

How are you checking to make sure? I have no-frills installed with SetCPU, I then set in no-frills, go to setcpu, lock, unlock, and it's showing it resets. I don't see an option to check governors or minimum in no-frills.

EDIT:
I uninstalled, re-installed SetCPU denying superuser privileges. It still shows it resetting with no-frills. I have a feeling you guys are thinking it's working, but the min is actually 245 after locking and you just don't know.

up for over 12hrs now set at 1708 no problems

For any of you guys on the fence about installing this, I've put together a quick hands on review video using v1, which I've had the best luck with. I'll be putting an installation video as well as an overclocking/settings video later. While I know most of you have no problem with the installation and overclocking, I figure some people will get somevalue out of these.

FYI - I've had mine at 1.9Ghz and some SetCPU profiles with no issues whatsoever.
