Battery consumption

Im having trouble with my battery being drained in an weird way.

I tried charging to 100%, runnning battery calibration, discharging and fully charge without break, with no real effect.

It discharges at certain points. Ex. showing 89% for 20 minutes with heavy use, going from 89% to 70%

Im running google apps, mail and calender with full sync on and simple calendar and nothing else.

After a full charge ive tried activating lots of programs, gps, bluetooth, wifi and screen brightness to 100% and this discharged the battery almost the same as, if all was deactivated and screen brightness was 40%.

Ive flashed with CM7 and cleared battery stats, but flashed back to Gingerbread 2.3.4 and rooted it running battery calibration.

Anyone experienced this and is this normal behavior?

See linked battery stats.

Disable auto rotate and auto sync, these drain battery hard

When you sync you need to connect to a server and download/upload data, the amount of battery used when syncing is totally dependant on the amount of information you are syncing and how often you sync.

If you don't use it often or sync with little data it wont be alot, but like me if you use it alot and have alot of info being sync, it will drain your battery alot.

If your desperate for battery improvement just give it a shot mate you got nothing to loose, fully charge your battery in the morning, down brightness to just below 50% maybe around 45%

Disable auto sync and auto rotate and go the entire day with those two options off and you will see a huge improvement.

I had battery problems with this phone too so i know and i have experience and tried alot, and this is the most sucessful thing i have done without battery apps etc. (Obviously other internet apps like skype, msn, viber etc shouldn't be running)

I also got a 1500 mAh battery that was under

I just read some articles from google stating sync really doesnt use up any real battery, but they might be wrong.

I tried disabling auto rotate, but syncing calendar and mail is 90% of my phone, so even though this would help its really not an option..

How long does your mini lasts after a full charge?

With 1500 mAh battery and auto rotate and sync off, after a day at work i have 60% battery (at the end of the day around 18:00) and that is with alot of texting throughout the day and some calls. No internet usage but i am using 3G, i never turn that off.

Your results may be less as your probably on the standard 1200 mAh battery.

If you need to have auto sync on then i suggest you upgrade the battery, battery for this phone is very cheap specifically the 1500 mAh battery, i believe you can get an even bigger battery with an extended back but i haven't been able to find one for the mini, lots of 1500 mAh battery on ebay though or amazon

Did you save any battery with auto rotate turned off?

Its not draining as hard as before.. whether its auto rotate or not is hard to say, but its different.

I used my phone as much as before, but maybe different apps.. im not sure..

It been going for a heavy load for 7 hours with over 50% left now.. same apps running and no auto rotate.

Huge difference!

Ps. Be careful with 3rd party batteries.. even though they have "better" MAH, Samsung OEM may be much better with less MAH!

Yeah i am aware of this, samsung battery may have better quality indeed.

My battery widget says it's been on battery for 11h 41m and 77% battery left, using wifi the whole time and texting with auto rotate and auto sync off.

It's truely hard to know what difference auto rotate makes since it doesn't truly turn off. if you go in gallery and move the phone around you can see the background moving and that tells you it still rotates even though the option has been disabled.

BTW how do you take screen shots? i've pressed the phone a few times and it's taken a screen shot but i have no idea how it does that and from what i've read online it cannot be done without some 3rd party app, but it has been done on my phone and i have no 3rd party app for screen shots

Im using the screen capture app.. I tried shotme, but it makes my pictures red glowing for some reason.

If you have CM7 you can take a screenshot by pressing the power button and choosing screenshot.

I havent heard of any screenshot program in the stock roms without any extra apps installed.
