Looks like LTE is official for Sprint

They completely screwed up wimax, they will screw up lte. They are just angling for a buyout right now, I think it will be either google or dish. They will have to spend at least 5 billion more dollars to build out lte. That will be 15 billion dollars that should have only cost 5 billion dollars to begin with. Way to go sprint, you just managed to waste more money with out actually improving anything. The speeds will be the same, the service will be the same, and the failure will be the same.

So what does this mean for those of us with current 4G (WiMax) phones?
I assume there will be some sort of a transition period.
Do we know if the current radios that support WiMax will support LTE?

Google buyout might be a good thing. Please, please not Dish.

According to the link at the top, yes.

Doh!!! Read the thing now. Should have done that first before the comments. Thanks. They said it will save them 10 to 11 billion dollars, so it jives with RiverOfIce's comment about total cost of rolling out LTE.

Obviously, none of us will benefit from LTE directly, but if what they say is true, coverage should improve for all current devices, including WiMax 4G coverage.
