Root Updated to GB OTA, question about rooting

Im thinking about rooting after this new update. Or can I root it and then install the update? I am thinking about using this method:

Updated (4/21/2011): [Exclusive] How To Root The HTC ThunderBolt And Unlock Its Bootloader

you cannot use that method after the OTA,even if you wanted. its temp exploit has been patched in GB. you could use it now,but its outdated. if wanting to learn how to use ADB,go for it-we will help :D

if you just want to be rooted, use revolutionary, you wont lose any data.

Revolutionary

i personally would root now. if you do not install clockwork, you can let the OTA happen, and very easily root after.

if you followed all directions:
-let revolutionary install clockwork
-flsahed superuser in clockwork

then you should be rooted :)

to verify root, you can download the root check, you can make sure theres a superuser app in your app drawer, you can open "terminal emulater" and sype "su" wich should chage the prompt to "#",or you can simply try and use another root app and see if superuser asks you for permissions, then lets you use the app.

couple of root-only "must haves":
-titanium backup paid
-root explorer

I updated to the GB OTA yesterday and have no had any issues. I am thinking about rooting my phone now and later down the road installing a custom ROM. I watched the Revolutionary method and it is very simple (kudos for the video). My question is can I root my phone via this method without flashing a ROM and the phone still work running the OTA I received on 9/29?

Yes you can, rooting just grants you s-off which allows you to have full access to the phone. Like being able to download apps to wireless tether and you will also have superuser permissions

Yes you can, root away!

Well I am now rooted /cheer, it could not have been easier! Where is the best place to look for apps that require root? Any cool features I should adjust on the phone now?

I would suggest looking into a custom rom, there are plenty of them for you to try out. Some root apps I use often would be root explorer, titanium backup, and titanium backup pro. If you flash a custom rom you will have more settings to mess around with.

P.S. your cigar and blazer are on the table ;)

I was previously rooted on my thunderbolt and did this the manual way. Last week the ear piece broke, called verizon, unrooted my tbolt and sent it to verizon as they were shipping me a new tbolt (still under warrenty). Once i recieved the new phone i updated all software to the most current. Now i attempted root using revolutionary following the directions in the video. My PROBLEM is i have acquired s-off and the phone states revolutionary but i am not rooted. Titanium, rom manager, root checker will not work. Superuser is installed but states "outdated binary" when i update it force closes. At the end of the tutorial video, the narrator states to move SU file to the root of sd card and keep it zipped up. I did not do this and i do not have the file or know where to get it. Not sure if this is problem or not.

If you go to the video on the youtube site he has a link to the su file in the video description.. or you can click it here http://goo-inside.me/superuser/su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip.

There is a superuser in the thunderbolt rom list thread,in the mods post.

Click the link for"working superuser for TB sense". Its a little better than what revolutionary has you use. I always use it when rooting ruus. I can't directly link it ATM,however.
