I caught a new article on Droid Life discussing the fact that the Droid Charge was dropped in price to $199.99 this past Friday, and how that drop is likely due to a desire to clear out inventory as the Prime is launching a few weeks from now, and replacing (and improving upon) the Charge.

As the Vigor/Rezound seem to have the same relationship to the TB, I checked the TB pricing and found it still listed at $249.99 on a 2 year contract. Then, I checked the pricing of both phones on the Testman site, and found the TB discounted by $100.00 on a special promo to $149.99 on a 2 year contract, with the Charge being listed at $299.99 on a contract of the same term.

Testman Links:

Charge: Set Your Location

TB: Set Your Location

Does the Testman site tend to show what will be posted to the actual VZW site in the near future, i.e., the Charge will go back up to $299.99 and the TB will drop to $149.99?

Also, I've been following mobile phones and related tech for a while, but never looked into market / pricing trends with respect to upcoming releases. Although the logic in the Droid Life article makes sense, has anyone noticed this trend with VZW in the past when preparing to launch a new phone that will "replace" a current model? If so, and based on VZW's past tendencies, is there a decent chance that this means that (1) the Vigor/Rezound is still likely to launch before the Prime, and more importantly, (2) that the Vigor/Rezound is still likely to launch within the next few weeks?

Since we don't have anything new and of real substance to discuss, I figured that some speculation would help pass the time until the next major leak / official announcement...

I remember when the TB release was anticipated. The iPad 2 was being released around the same time and many people speculated that the TB would be released on the same week. I actually thought that it didn't benefit Verizon to release 2 new competing products on the same week. IIRC my theory proved true as Verizon released the iPad 2 and then a few weeks later they released the TB. It only makes sense. You want to bring in as many people as you can spaced out as much as you can. You also don't want to have to overstaff your store in anticipation of Android AND Apple people coming to your store in the same week for a new product release.

I'm saying in 2 weeks the phone should be out. With the iPhone 4S coming out this week, I don't see the Vigor coming out this week.

There is a post on Droid-Life now mentioning that the TB has been dropped to $49 for existing customers and $149 for new customers with an extended battery included. So here's hoping that means the Vigor is around the corner (next week).

Don't know where DL got the $49.. nobody can seem to reproduce it.. but it's definitely dropped to $149

x2.

I know there are many people that do not know who Dr Dre is, but have a really hard time believing that someone who is on an internet forum seeking information about a cutting edge piece of technology that hasn't been released yet is one of them...

Well believe it. Would you also find it hard to believe that said person has ZERO tv, wont use a microwave, shaves with straight razors and refuses to use a frying pan thats not cast iron?

My only interest in tech is phones, and I use the internet to find good deals I want to buy and guns, and thats about it.

Yes (if true), it means there trying to clear out stock for the newer phones launching over the next month or two...

To those who own/owned the TB, what was the major downfall with it? Although I'd really like the brand new phone coming out, that price is pretty swell.

Sneaky, I have had ZERO issues with my bolt. Absolutely love it. I'm in a unique situation though, where I have Wi-Fi at home and Wi-Fi at work, so I can go a full work day with only a 15% battery loss. Then go home and use the hell out of my phone until bed and be fine to plug it in for the night. Prior to my job giving out its Wi-Fi code, I had an additional battery charged at home ready for me, but as soon as I got that code I haven't needed it. It is a slick phone, fast as hell and sexy too if I say so myself. As I wrote in another post...if. weren't a phone whore and my wife didn't want my TB since the Inc I gave her in March is laggy, I'd keep this bad boy for sure.

I am in the same situation as you (except I work from home) so I am on wi-fi most of the time. But I still had issues with battery life. Some days I could get around 1.5 days out if it, others only half a day. That's with wi-fi constant, seldom use of 3G and 4G/LTE turned off. That was before the first update. The straw that broke my back was it started rebooting randomly, still before the update. It was bone stock, not even any side loaded apk's installed on it. I held out for the update, but when I saw more people getting the reboots after the update I decided to switch.

Now a friend of mine has one as well (got mine launch day, he got his a month or so later) and he hasn't mentioned any issues last I checked a few months back. So the only thing I can reason is that maybe there were some QC issues in the first run. If I would've gotten a replacement again (had a couple but they had the same or worse issues so I kept my original) I would've gotten one from the first run. Rather than play musical phones for the forseeable future, I switched to the Inc2. If my Tbolt would've performed like my Inc2, I would've been set. Not a hiccup after 5 months. Of course maybe I just got lucky, but the threads on the Inc2 don't have near the acitivity of some of the others, so it must be ok.

eipee73, if you're thinking you might want to try a Tbolt, check out the threads on the Tbolt forum where new customers are asking Tbolt owners how they like their's. Then maybe try one out in the store. If you like it, go for it. You've got 14 days to try it out. If you end up not liking it return it before the trial is up, go back to your old phone until one you like better comes out.

it was supposed to come out on the 13th of the month? there a\hasnt been and thing said about the vigor in the passed 2 weeks wth is going on i want to buy it nowwww.

who told you that it was suppose to come out on the 13th?

i've not seen any Official VZW release of this phone.

although i agree with you a little. I thought it was suppose to have been officially announced by VZW by now.

With all the problem I would want to try it

I honestly think it just got lost in the shuffle! Between the Nexus Prime and the Droid Razr/Spyder, I think VZW has it's hands full.

However, like Trophy said I would have deff thought HTC/VZW would have said something by now. I really cant see the Vigor going head up with the other BIG Shots that VZW is getting ready to release to the masses...Unless someone really loves Sense, I cant see them choosing it over the Thinnest phone ever...lol, or a pure Google Phone. If it was alone without these other 2 monsters dropping, then I think it would do some dammage!

then again maybe HTC finally decided to wait and announce a phone when they're capable of actually releasing it at the said time....unlike the Dinc and the ThunderTurd

honestly though. The choices of my next phone are between the Vigor and the Prime. I probably wouldn't consider the Droid Razr for me personally.

The Razr will most likely not end up in my hands either, but it will be marketed to no end...every other commercial during a football game will be about that phone...lol! However, I'm pretty much sold on the Prime. Unless the reviews were through the roof with the Vigor, I probably wouldn't get it. HTC's battery life and screen leakage issues just irk me...

I'm not really one for purchasing "outdated" technology, but if I can really score it for only $50 it might be worth it. I'm currently running on the original Incredible and the lag/application data space shortage is killing me. I want to get something new soon. I also need to figure out when my upgrade is...maybe I'll check on that today (I know it must be soon since my last phone was a prerelease order of the DINC)

I think I read somewhere on here that the $50 price was incorrect. I believe $150 is the going rate. I'll have to check this or one of the other threads on here to be sure though.

Well if it's $150 there's no point in getting the older hardware. I'll just wait for this phone....(hopefully it'll be out soon!)

The only reason there were delays in the Dinc launch was due to Samsung holding back amoled screens afterthe phone was already launched. That's not HTC's fault. As far as the Thunderbolt, it went out in the timeframe that Verizon and HTC had given at launch, which was Q1 2011. The rason everyone saw it as a delay was all of these "inside sources" claiming it would come out earlier.

Not to say that their weren't delays, but how many phones on Verizon have actually launched without a delay or two. Verizon's Galaxy S variant, the Fascinate, launched a month after it was rumored to. The Thunderbolt was supposed to launch in late 2010,but they decided to add LTE and launch it as the 1st phone with LTE. That's basically a complete rework of the innerds. The Bioinc has the biggest delay, at almost 4 months late.

The biggest reason for the delays is Verizon's approval process. But that just means they're trying to get a device out as bug free as possible. Even the i*hone has bugs at launch, and that company has ONE phone to deal with getting out a year, rather than the 5-10 android and 2-3 windows phones some manufacturers have to launch.
