Help Battery draining too fast?

That is very good, you are talking about 10hours and you only dropped 7%. Do you have data running in the background? Because even if the phone is still locked it is still working in the background. You can install JuiceDefender and see how much you get.
 
But some people has 1-2% battery drain overnight and thats almost overnight when you count the time

My Phone Idle and Cell Standby is usually on 40%+ is that normal?
 
Sometimes if you have a weak signal your phone will use more power as it tries to search for a better one. Try restarting the phone and see how much the Phone Idle and Cell Standby use. I checked my phone and they are using between 3 - 8%
 
What firmware are you on?

On 2.1 battery drain on Cell standby was ridiculous. On 2.2 it was better


But the figures you are mentioning i.e. 1-2% overnight have been possible only with 2.3.

If you are on 2.3 then I would say the battery drain is a "bit fast" but not "too fast".
 
I don't know if this is the problem I am having but my phone is loosing all its charge and going dead overnight.

I'll get up in the a.m and the phone is dead, I plug it into charge and leave it til fully charged, IF the phone is less than the full bar when I go to sleep I know that when I wake in the morning it will be dead.

A few weeks ago I was playing angry birds alot and it wasnt doing this but I was worried it would affect the battery - it was obviously running the charge down and I'd have to charge it alot - but now I hardly play it n if I do its the odd game rather than the "one more try before I throw the phone out of the window" as I was before.

The only thing I do with my phone is check FB, and text.

So why is my phone doing this? (btw any replies...not too technical please I am thick as a brick when it comes to all the specs you all talk about, hence me staying in the "Lounge" lol:p
 
Can't be sure of this, but I think same thing is happening to my Galaxy S as well. It drains a lot of power from my battery even sitting in idle. Lately, I'm leaving the phone on airplane mode during the night(helps in two ways: Less battery consumption, and less annoying phone calls at 2-3AM).

What firmware are you on? 2.3.3 or Froyo?


When you switch the screen of your phone ideally the phone should go into "sleep" mode and thus use very less battery. However sometimes an app can prevent the phone from sleeping so that it remains "awake" and eats a lot of battery.

If you are on 2.3.3 then you can get detailed battery stats and find out what is causing battery drain.
 
I've had my phone for a week (Firmware 2.2). When I got it I downloaded Skype, Stop Skype, Firefox and Yahoo Mail. After doing that my battery was draining really fast. So now I've uninstalled Stop Skype, Firefox and Yahoo Mail and stopped all the applications I had running. I've also turned the screen brightness to low and turned off Auto Rotation.

At 12 noon today the battery was 100%, it's now 4pm and the battery is showing 91%, so that's great. Mind you, I haven't made or received any calls!

As I'm new to all of this - can anyone tell me if I've done anything stupid!
 
Update: It's now been a full 24 hours since I stopped all the applications from running and deleted Yahoo Mail. In 24 hours my battery has gone from 100% to 70% - so I've only used up 30%. Previously, my battery was draining at an alarming rate.

So I think the answer to saving battery power is to use applications only when you need them. It's a shame about the Yahoo Mail app though, I really liked it - but I can still access my mail through the internet so the drain on the battery didn't make it worthwhile.

Sorry to drag an old thread up, and notice I didn't answer this question. But the same problem has SUDDENLY started to happen again hence me coming searching for answers.

Like I said in my post I am not technical AT ALL and the "2.3.3" and "froyo" mean NOTHING to me.......confussssssssssssssssed.com.

I assume whatever was happening stopped cos it's been fine for ages, quite possibly cos I used to find it happened when I played angry birds but I don't play it anymore,then last week my cousin came and she has got the same phone as me - probably a more up-to-date version by now, and she downloads all sorts of stuff. She was telling me what she has on her phone and I asked re downloading music - mainly for ringtones and she suggested a free MP3 download thingie. Anyway, I did that +greedy spiders+solitaire+sky+ I havent downloaded anything for ages. Anyway, she said she'd been having a few probs with her phone and she was going into the shop about it. After a couple of days I found my phone was freezing on the home screen etc like she had said, and I said I had deleted the MP3 thing as that was the only one of the new apps I had used, and suggested that might be her problem too and she removed it. Now the freezing had stopped, but my battery is suddenly draining within a day. Yesterday I removed all the new apps, charged my phone to full, noticed that at bedtime it was sort of half full, wake up this morning and its dead as a dodo.
What is suddenly causing it to drain?
 
My galaxy s battery drains fairly fast if I dont turn off the 'Background Data' function, you will find this in your settings under Accounts and Sync,,, touch the left hand touch button, click on settings and scroll down to the Accounts and Sync section, enter there and untick the green tick, a pop up box will ask you to confirm, but next time you start up the App Market it will prompt you to re=tick the box otherwise you can not go on the market.....for me I know when I have forgotten to turn it back off once I have finished my session on the market, as my battery level will decrease much quicker than when I do turn it off. Might be worth a try but bear in mind if you want to keep up to date on your facebook friends etc, and your installed apps you will have to keep this background data fuction on..

I found this yesterday somehow. I was trying to suss what it could be that was suddenly draining my battery so quick and I found the "help" tab and this is what it suggested. I saw that the difference was that when I did the press and hold thing to close all active applications, usually it comes up with about 6, and this time it literally had 2 items that were running (so obviously things do run in the background normally...BUT....in the middle of the night the phone died again and I didn't use my phone at all yesterday for anything at all.
