Well, I finally ran out of patience and rooted and loaded a GB ROM last night. So far it is going well. Took a lot of time to load my apps back and set up my screens again but titanium backup worked great.

I am sure I will be checking in on this thread since it is addictive.

I don't think HTC / Verizon are really going to spend any more time with updates for the Incredible. They are too busy preparing for the Vigor / Droid Prime.

But for those who want GB the way it should have been, check out this ROM called Stock Plus:

It's basically the Stock GB ROM but with a few extras.

Had it. Hated it! Downgraded and rooted and downloading the ROM in the post above mine. Not looking back!

EDIT: i read the whole thread, but didn't find the answer. Does the ROM have to be renamed before it gets put on SD? Forgive my relative newbness.

Been on Nils Gingerbread for the past few weeks and haven't had any problems. I think battery life is better than it was with stock and really enjoying all the added functionality with the newer ROM. Rooting is a great way to extend the usefulness and fun from an older phone and quell some of the phone-envy with all these new phones being released. I have almost a year before I can upgrade, and I know I'll be happy with my DInc for sure until then with the new ROM.

You can call VZW. If your phone is screwed make them replace it.

Root your current Dinc, or get the Inc2 if you like the smaller profile than any of the newer 4LTE phones. 4" screen is great--anything more is slab-like, tough to fit in a pocket and less is a little hard to read (even our current Dinc.).

Seems lots of people got this email, and Verizon is at first denying they send it out - "it was a third party".. who happens to have my phone number? uh huh... they are honoring it.. more or less. One person on the Verizon forums said they'd only let him upgrade to one of the 4 phones in the email - even though the email doesn't say " upgrade to one of these phone early..."

Going to try my hand tomorrow ... I do love my Incredible, but... I'm an Apple guy at heart And I'll keep my Incredible as a spare for my girlfriend if/when she busts up hers lol! Though.. I may root first...

You are aware the Galaxy Nexus with Ice Cream Sandwich is coming out soon right? Wait to see what that is like before you get the iPhone 4.1
