Help wifi troubles . . .

Lurker
I'm a new user to the tablet and still trying to figure things out. I've had it for about a month and the last few days I can no longer get the wifi to work. Nothing has changed with our home network and other items pick it up fine. It constantly says "obtaining IP address".

I have read this complaint on other sites but to be honest, the conversation was way over my head. Can anyone give me a simple fix to this problem? The Samsung customer service is closed over the weekend.

Thanks :)

Do you have other devices on the network over wireless? If not, then try a router reset. If other wireless devices are working fine then ignore that.

And I am sure you have tried resetting the tablet? Also try clearing your wireless settings for that particular network and starting over.

That is the best thing to do, if I have wifi problems that is the first thing I do, however there been times that the problem was my router and not the device.

Hi All,
Any new solutions to this problem? A friend of mine just got this tablet and is having the same problem connecting to wifi just for printing docs.

We reset the router, cleared wifi settings from the tablet, rebooted the tablet, etc etc. Wifi constantly says trying to obtain IP address but never connects. We were able to connect to the same wifi network using 3 other android smartphones however...all with excellent signal strength.

She called vzw tech support and put em on speaker phone, and the lady asked us if we had googled the problem before we called! Her device is a month old and I just though it was hilarious that vzw expected her (non-tech minded) to google the problem before calling tech support. Also equally disturbing though, was that the vzw tech was googling the issue the whole time as well for possible solutions. From her feedback, this seems to be a fairly widespread problem at the moment. Anyone else have success?

Thanks!

Something to check on the router is the SSID broadcast name for the router network. Make sure it's a single word, not a phrase as some devices do not work well with a phrase for the name:

my network = does NOT work

mynetwork = works fine

Also check the channel (frequency) assignments and try another channel. Some devices may be sensitive to certain channels or congestion in the area.

Hmm, you may be onto something there, as I do remember the ssid being 2 words. I won't be over there again until Friday, but I'll give that a try. Thanks for the input, I truly appreciate it.

No problemo...let us know the results.

bfksc, Thanks again for the tip...that seemed to do the trick connecting to wifi.

Still had limited success connecting to the wifi printer from the tablet to actually print, but I think that has more to do with that device not being set up properly on the network. My friends like to plug in their new toys immediately from the store, and that constitutes installation on their part.
