So, what do you think?

you must have been lucky. he's right - the general rule is that batteries are designed to maintain optimal performance for 8+ months. if you haven't had to replace your battery, and are still getting great performance, count yourself lucky. but, don't expect that to continue with your next device...

I think using built-in battery was necessary to make it super thin like 7.1mm. I for one would be fine with 9mm and removable battery.

the VZW focus group docs that leaked several months ago (and which clearly are tied to the RAZR) said it would be a global device. i expect it will; altho, i would have expected that to be a topic of the presentation this morning, and it wasn't...

EDIT: DL just posted that the RAZR went thru FCC, and has both LTE and GSM radios: Motorola DROID RAZR Arrives At The FCC, LTE and GSM Radios Included - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

I posted shots of the the card slots earlier (five hours ago) that shows the micro sim and sd card slot. Our buds in the Nexus forum are doubting the 1.2ghz chip is a 4460.

I do agree that the fixed battery is a ding against it. Seems EVERY device has a glaring issue. The locked boot loader is ok to me, but the fixed battery is an issue.

They wanted super thin and this is how they got it.

Who told you that? My battery is between 60%-70% at the end of the day, every single day on my Droid X. It has been that same exact percentage since the day I bought it 15 months ago.

Also, it's the original battery and not an extended one either.

My experience with my own phones and Radio Control cars using Li Po, Li Fe, li ion and others...

they all experience charge capacity loss and voltage drop after 200 - 300 charges..not enough to cover a 2 year plan..

they still work, but they are by no means fresh...

ALL these batts lose their edge..

Claims are claims. Before it's release Motorola claimed great battery life w/ the Bionic & it's the same as any other smartphone. Thin phone = Bad battery life

vs. the other LTE phones on Verizon, it does have the best battery life overall. Talk time is the biggest difference followed by wifi. Seems like Moto might had found that magic for the RAZR too.

And put this phone right on my list. Was still leaning towards the Bionic but if the talk time really is 12.5 hours, RAZR will be mine. And if the battery is 1800mAh, there might have been some advances in battery tech we dont know about, or the RAZR is using a better chip and LTE technology. Whatever the case, I want this phone...lol

A key is going to be what the actual chipset is and I posted a thread in regards to this, so will not duplicate here. In short, if a 4430, a fixed battery is bad and no way the device lasts all day unless not using it much.

On all the Battery stuff, with it losing power after a certain amount of time!

Please explain to me all the very, very, did I say (very) happy IPHONE users out there still rockin an iphone 3G and 3Gs for a few years now!

Please already with the BS of not having a battery that you can take out and swap. What it means to me is no wobbly battery door, and a superb solid feeling device.

Call me crazy...but i'll take an SD card slot over a removable battery.

It's a tough call for me personally. On one hand you have the Prime. Launches with ICS, TW 4.0, face recognition and all sorts of other cool nifty little things to go along with it.

On the other hand it's a Samsung. Not saying Samsung is bad but they pump out so many new phones these days they don't ever really bother to support/update their current devices much anymore. They simply just make a new phone again.

Meanwhile the RAZR just looks hot and very well built. Great for people with an active lifestyle and that don't want to lug around a Commando. All sorts of goodies and though it doesn't launch with ICS Moto is one of the better manufacturers when it comes to updates (from what i have noticed). The "yet to be determined factor" with the RAZR is how the built in battery will hold up.

Going to be interesting to see some video dog fights between the two once they are released to see how they square up against each other.

The Samsung/Update debate dies with this phone for now! Its a Nexus ...Google controls everything. So no issues there! I just happen to dig the Razr, and may opt for it based on having an SD slot, and superior build quality...we'll see which hits first.

Apple has stated that the battery loses 20% of it's charge after 300-400 cycles....

that is approximately 2 years...

for certain users 20% is a lot of loss...I would think it hurts resell value of any phone..I know I wouldn't buy a phone used with a batt that has lost 20% of it's capacity...

and any estimates are based under ideal conditions, don't forget...I can tell you that the lithium based packs in my RC cars and the bats in my phones lose notable voltage after 8 months of use...

Built in battery = built in new phone.

"hello, Verizon? Yeah, my Razr just isn't working right. The battery ssems to not be able to hold a charge. You'll send me a warrranty replacement? Gee, thanks! Really? I was totally unaware that it has been 11 months and 29 days since I bought this phone. Good thing I just happened to call during the last week of warranty coverage."

And oh, BTW--for those insisting no SD card is no big deal, when going from cardless phone to cardless phone, let me know how that Titanium backup works for you. Hopefully they'll make TB compatible with cardless phones, and the dropbox feature will be avaialble.

Never heard of a USB cable? ;)

Sure, they lose their edge, but are they so weak that you looking to replace them after that time? The battery in my DX is also working just fine after 15 months. I have no doubt that it will still be fine when I upgrade phones in March.

That is a great point. How will they now manage this practice? Users may have to mail their phone to VZW so it can be replaced.

My experience with consumer electronics is anything that resembles work is something they avoid due to expense. For older "refurb" phones, all they had to do was run some monkey level diagnostics and be done. You didn't even get a new battery...and batteries weren't a warranted item (were they?).

A "battery" issue would change that whole model, at least how they've dealt with prior Android devices. I assume an iPhone user who had a battery issue might be able to enlighten us?

This is how I'm looking at it the Razr just seems to be a more impressive phone but we'll see I think the Nexus looks great but no Sd slot and no HDMI ??

very disappointing , I don't like the built in battery but if it gets the battery life they claim then it won't be an issue. I was really originally planning on the Nexus device if one came to Verizon but I just think the hardware falls short . I'll have to look at them side by side and see some more reviews before I make a decision which I probably wont' be doing until december anyways

My issue with my two samsung phones wasn't with updates but with a million problems I had with both freezing and I know HTC devices are supposed to be the ones with bad battery life but no matter what I did my Fascinate sucked battery and I even had it replaced . I mean both would just sit there on wifi not being used and no programs installed and it would die in under 6hrs . I don't know what the deal was but new battery and new phones didn't fix it . But that samsung screen blew away anything I've had with moto or htc

Per Yodadroid:
4) The battery life isn't compromised by the phone size. It's still a large battery. I wouldn't recommend pulling it out to try to tinker with it. Motorola will have a solution for extended battery lovers down the road as well.

Not thrilled with this if it is an overpriced, proprietary solution, but it beats nothing.

I'm willing to bet that it will be a case that plugs into the USB port. There will be plenty of aftermarket variants of this to choose from.

Just a side note...iphones have the highest resale value out if any phone on the market today. So clearly a sealed battery isn't a huge deal to most people who purchase a used iphone.

And if that's the case within a year of owning the Razr...just give vzw a call, they'll send out a new phone. After the year...Insurance really comes in handy and is worth the $7-10 a month...

For me...It's a non event, my phones have a life span of maybeeeee 3-4 months and then i'm on to the next one! : )

As I understand this phone also comes with all the GSM and most HSPDA bands. Is there gonna be an unlocked unbranded version available too?

i seriously wonder if ICS will really be made available for RAZR.

i remember very well that motorola said 1080p video recording will be made available to Atrix in a future update. i almost fell for that one...
