RAZR not a world phone after all?

It has the micro sim and VZW mentioned it in the hands-on. Even if the 4430 turns out to be a rebadged 4460 or whatever, I need the world phone function.

i too need the world phone function.....wtf man good grief. That was the only allure that phone had for me. ...that is so stupid...

on the 4S after 60 days they will unlock the sim in it so you can put a sim from a local carrier overseas in it.

Does this imply the Razr could be "SIMd" into a world phone? Is that the firmware lock they are referring to?

Must be a mistake of perception on what is being done with the sim function, since pure stupid to offer a micro sim with no function.... Wait, the Motorola Xoom had a non-functioning microsd and sim for about a year... Maybe it is not stupid in their minds.

"Nice" find, but still hoping the author assumed this and was not told by a VZW rep at the show. The device does have a sim slot that VZW reps even mention in videos... maybe this is a North American 4G only sim??

Drats. Considering the D3 and Bionic are world devices, this would be a curve ball. Two bean balls by two devices. Nexus with the no sd clot bean and the Razr with no WW function bean (if correct). My head hurts and has two new knots.

According to this the Bionic isn't a worldphone either...

World phone would be really nice and would probably be the deciding factor between the newest crop of LTE phones (Razr, Nexus, Rezound).

Perhaps me and others have fallen to assumptions. Since the Droid 3 does have a sim and does work outside of the US, some people are assuming it is the case for the Bionic and Razr. Question would be is this disabled due to hardware constraints, or due to not being ready for current sims used in the Bionic and Razr (a planned software update)? Based on how long it took the Xoom to get 4G sim enabled, I would not expect an expeditious effort for either device.

Update:

Need to get past denial, since enough reports the device is NOT a world phone. It is a fair assumption that it was a world phone, since Motorola themselves are pushing this as an enterprise device. "My" company is a Fortune 500 and I know the IT team. Good luck Moto and VZW trying to push this to large global companies without global function. Makes no sense unless they ARE planning to make it WW, but perhaps it can not be.

There have been claims that the Rezound may be a world phone, but nothing officially announced yet.

....chalk up one more positive for the I*hone......

Heck, I would rather have the non slot Nexus than that

The Rezound COULD be good, IF the LTE chip is better (a lot) than the TBs.

Seriously, the Flyer has the single core version of the 1.5ghz and it eats my D3 and Thrive for lunch in performance. The Rezound could be a dark horse and be the mash of the Nexus and Razr that some want. Long shot, but still a chance.

No Motocast though.... Gotta think about that...

has anyone noticed that in the GSMArena preview article they mosted specs that would imply this to be a world phone?

The Bionic has GSM capabilities but Moto disabled their functionality in the US so it wouldn't have to pass that FCC testing as well. It said it in the FCC docs website. I was told by a verizon rep that it is a world phone but I don't entirely believe it as the sim is an LTE verizon one and not a Vodafone like other VZW world phones. All VZW world phones have GSM disabled in the US. Some better disabled than others. A few have gotten the incredible 2 working on Tmob. Digging in the programming menus of the Bionic, GPRS service is active on the Bioinc but not active on pure CDMA Moto phones like the X, so who knows. I'd have to travel or call vzw global support and try to get it activated for a GSM country and see what they say.

We were talking about the VZW version being a world phone or not. I doubt anyone wonders if the GSM will be a world phone hehe.

Nothing has really been confirmed yet. Plus AFAIR, for Milestone 2 and Defy there was a baseband switcher app so that might enable you to change bands for the times you travel to GSM countries. Even if it is disabled, it does not mean soemone will not find a way to enable it.
