Why I chose DROID RAZR

timdog68

Newbie
After way too much deliberation and angst I chose the RAZR.
For me coming from a Blackberry it offered most of what i needed:
Downsides for me:
Sealed Battery
Not a world phone

Upside:
Very Sturdy construction
Encryption
SD slot
Motocast vs Cloud
Smart APP
Perfect Size for me

I think both the RAZR and the NEXUS are great phones and I have no malice towards either group.

I don't need to root my phone and the Moto appears to be pretty snappy regardless of the junk apps I have to leave on there.

Phone quality, security, privacy, durability are my main concerns.

I don't like the cloud, clouds come and go and I want my data protected by me not some online server who knows where. That being said I want removable media for files I don't want to keep on my phone and the pc link up via motocast is much more secure than the cloud.

Battery is a concern but I can charge at home,at work, and on the road.
I had a 2nd battery for my BB but never really needed it granted it was not LTE and had a browser so discouraging I didnt use it much.

NFC? talk to me in two years and I still won't want one more gimmick for thieves to try and exploit.

Both phones are beautiful and I get the "bloatware free" appeal of the Galaxy Nexus but for me its not close to being a factor.

Just my .02

When I see what HTC has to offer with the Vigor (I would also call it the Resound, but no "edgy" letter replacements) in a couple of days, I'll start considering. I think the Razr wins on phone design, Galexus wins on software / customization, and Vigor wins in processing power (probably) and battery life with the extended (and thickness, lol). I'm leaning towards the Nexus, but I plan to hold all of them in my hand before deciding.

You made a great choice! It was the same as mine :D

For me it basically came down to:

Gnex: Awesome screen + ICS now
vs
Razr: Great screen, awesome phone, awesome accessories, ICS later.

There is no wrong choice, they're both beastly devices.

Choice was "easy" for me...2 great phones but the one that won had the looks and build quality to back it up.

I had a hard time letting go of the Nexus because I spent so much time following it but in the end the RAZR was the hands down clear winner.

I think since the Atrix launched...Moto has a leg up on the accessory front. I almost bought a dock when I pre ordered today...lol. I didnt really have the money so dock(s) and other accessories will get bought at a later date.

I'm gonna have to just take the Plunge and buy em both, and just really work em both to death and see which one I fall in love with...Whichever one wins I keep, and the other gets returned.

Either way its a short term love affair, some pretty crazy stuff should be coming in the 1st half of 2012...Phone whoring at it best...lmao!

Will be interesting to see how they both stack up to your tests.

I pretty much agree with everything everyone is saying on why they chose Razr over Gnex. Although, it's weird, the MotoACTV also helped sway me. I wouldn't use it as a watch, but with armband, yeah.

I wonder if they'll have a bundle deal?

One of the things that I liked about Razr too. I have been training quite a lot recently and a good Android watch in my wrist instead of my Android phone in the pocket will be nice.

Yeah, that thing is pretty cool eh? I'm also really interested in the mouse/remote that can take phone calls. Who woulda thunk they'd make a remote with a fone! Too cool!

Called up VZW to preorder my device and I was eligible for $30 off my next device but apparently not on this since this is an " iconic" device... man VZW sucks

Yupp go figure...like seriously " iconic device". Nice lady on the phone but iconic device is a bit much.

Was the $30 off your "new every two" discount? Because when I called yesterday to preorder, my rep gave me my $30 discount on the RAZR. I'd try back and ask a different rep...Even if you already preordered, see if they will apply it to your preorder. $30 is worth a shot, man.

Also confirming that I received $30 NE2 discount on my pre-order as well. Try calling back or cancel it and order it online.

Although, when I ordered it online, there was one point in the process where it said no discounts would apply to the phone. It then asked me if I still wanted to continue and I clicked yes. On the very next screen it showed the $30 discount.

Anyone else experience that?

The only thing holding me back from the RAZR is the screen size. Since I'll be switching from a physical keyboard (OG) and use my camera phone quite a bit, I just feel like I need as much screen real estate as possible. Maybe it won't matter once I see it though...the RAZR does look beautiful and the SD card just may be the deciding factor...

How big of a screen do you need? There is only 1 phone on verizon with a larger screen and that is the nexus. What do you need a huge screen if you take a lot of pictures?

Taking/showing to others instead of hauling around physical copies.

Right, the other phone I'm looking at is the Gnex. Love the size/specs don't love the lack of SD card.

Nexus has on screen buttons that make the usable screen area r. E or so.

If you want a big screen get Galaxy Note

If you are in no rush wait for the Nexus to drop so you can compare. The Nexus will obviously have the larger screen and that may be the perfect fit for you.

RAZR will be a great phone but if screen realestate is a big draw for you the Nexus can't be beat. Btw welcome to the RAZR area :)

Seem no harm no foul, since the display area that can be used is the same size or ever so slightly smaller than the Razr, due to the nav bar on the Nexus display. When the Razr gets ICS, the nav bar will not be present, since ICS will use the capacitive buttons instead. Apparently the only time the buttons go away is when watching video, so typing etc, means some space is taken by the nav bar.

Added:

Another thing to consider is IF you are a gamer and like emulators. Unless a method is made to only make the nav bar present when wanted, a virtual keyboard will likely be problematic with a small display.
