Google BUZZ better work on 1.5

You can do it through the browser or if you have a Droid, you can do it through Maps. An update just came out for it that implements it. It's the same as posting on Facebook but having people follow you like Twitter all the while giving out your location like Latitude. I believe Loopt does something like this.

Like there aren't enough social networking sites as it is, do we really need another?

but this is a GOOGLE Social Network site. I just hope that Wave and/or Voice somehow get integrated too. 2010 looks like a big year for G. I just wish they get with upgrading the Eris to 2.1 already, this 1.5 shits gotta stop.

Right now with the Eris we are the farthest back seeing as how we don't have root yet(Dev team keep up the good work) or one of the newer OS. Time for HTC and Google to step up

Umm nothing is pushed to your phone

Just open your browser from your phone

buzz.google.com

apparently it is pushed...
google just has yet to release it for all devices (from engadget) The new location services is integrated into the main mobile Google.com search page and the new buzz.google.com page for the iPhone and Android, and into maps for Android, S60, and Windows Mobile. Buzz is rolling out starting today, and it should hit everyone within "the next few days."

Google has a forum post that acknowledges that the mobile site works for Android 2.0 and above for now, but that they are working on the G1 (which is 1.6). I'm hoping that they'll just do 1.5 and above.

1.5 is the Windows 98 of Android, in terms of how obsolete it is. 2.6 is being tested now and codename "Gingerbread" is in the works. The only way to fully enjoy Android is to be running at least 2.0. Google has a knack for introducing things like these, where different things are combined, like Wave. Seems like a novelty that wears off after a while.

I've seen the vid too. Didn't "wow" me too much. And accept we're gonna be shafted conrinuously until we're upgraded.

I just laughed when I saw this thread. Eris is the ugly step child of Verizon, HTC, and Google.

Question:
Is there a clear (Google employee) answer on future browser support for Buzz on Android 1.5 devices?

Answer:
Yes, support for Buzz is "coming soon" to previous Android versions. Thanks for your patience, and in the meantime you can still use the "Buzz" layer in the Google Maps app.

That's the thing with Google and VZW and HTC when it comes to asking for information. They sugar coat the roofie they give you, so when they take you from behind for three months as you wait for their very vague release date, you don't realize you're getting ownd in the A.

VZW and HTC sent me the same emails when I asked them a few weeks ago.

Everyone. Please understand. Running 1.5 will get you none of the new stuff that you want. Buzz, Goggles, turn-by-turn, live wallpaper, or simply a phone that doesn't suck is saved for those that paid more for their device, i.e. Droid and N1 users.

Don't expect any updates after FroYo either, since live wallpapers are rumored to have been taken out for the Droid. The future only brings more and more advanced stuff our outdated processors will not handle.

I feel like I'm bursting some bubbles here, but it's the way it is. 2.1 will most likely bring in more problems, as our phones had enough troubles with 1.5. With the Incredible coming out soon on VZW, prepare for the Eris to be neglected even further.

i have a feeling you are 100% correct. VZW is gonna have the Incredible, N1 and Devour soon. I think after 2.1 hits our phones and all the bugs are worked out(if they aren't already after 3 months of waiting) i think its gonna be near the end of the road for the Eris. I wonder who is gonna sit a top the VZW tower though....Droid, N1 or Incredible

i think i'm gonna start a poll in the Verizon forum
come vote =]

The main place that I see fault with this phone is HTC's Sense. It is causing problems with Android 1.5, it doesn't work with 1.6 skipped 2.0 (hearsay) and I bet 2.1 if released will bear problems of its own. Android alone is a fantastic OS with no bugs that I ran into on my G1 or MT3G. Sense is the reason we are getting left behind. Has anyone heard of Apps not working on the N1 that came pre-installed? No? That is because Android itself is and does what it was designed to do. When you start introducing layers you get a overloaded phone. People design apps to be run on Android alone not Sense, Moto Blur, Samsungs Layer.

The Incredible has been spotted running 2.1 with Sense. I can't wait to hear more updates on whats going on with it. Android has run perfectly fine on every phone i see, but as soon as something is layered on it it seems its when the problems start. HTC is not going to give up on Sense.
- Soon all HTC phones will be running Android 3.0 w/ Sense, complete with coffee maker, car remote, Iphone Signal Nullifier, and Twilight Fan Mind Wipe

I said what I said in my sig, and someone told me to remove it. ;)

I figured this out by making a mistake, so I'm glad I got the learning experience. I don't think any Android phone running a custom UI has run into problems as big as those that are running them. The N1 and Droid are slowly, but surely, moving along and pushing the envelope further. Can't say that about my Eris.

Regret is a horrible feeling. Next time, Google Phone...next time. :(

You know what will happen? The N1 will be released the same day as the Incredible on VZW.

Well I'm really looking forward to the Incredible. That is one sexy phone. But my eris still deserves some love from Google. This little phone stood right by the big bad Droid and manged to sell quite well and still is preferred over the Droid by many users.

Soon as we get Root, the sky is the limit. We might not get many OTAs after the Incredible and N1, but we will still hold our own

Anybody else already get it on their Gmail homepage on you computer(not phone)? I just got home and it was waiting.

How do you get the Buzz layer in Google Maps to work?

It will not work on Android 1.5 or 1.6 and never will.

not entirely true, you'll probably never see it on 1.5, but apparently 1.6 can get the maps upgrade (it's in the market). 1.5 mostly had maps preinstalled and thus can't be updated to get the buzz layer.

really tired of being kicked to the curb when all the newer versions get the fun stuff.

SORRY I DIDN'T WANNA SPEND AN EXTRA HUNDRED BUCKS VERIZON/GOOGLE

I hate to beat a dead horse, but in early December, an update which would support Google Maps with Navigation was promised to be available in the first quarter of this year. When the first quarter is up and there is no update, then I'd say that attacking Verizon and HTC headquarters with pitchforks and flaming torches sounds valid. Until then, we are not quite halfway through the quarter; there are rumors that the Hero is getting 2.1 in mid-March; I'd set my expectations to an update sometime in the last couple of weeks of March and relax a bit until then.

I'm game, i say we find some useless junk and start chucking it through Verizon headquarters' windows. Quick everyone go to an AT&t store to get ammo!

If by the end of the first quarter I dont' have an update I'll be going into Verizon and rasing hell till them upgrade me to an N1, they usually go for this as I have 9 lines with Verizon and when I threaten to leave they usually hook a little something up haha , it's how I got my Eris early
