Is Launcher Pro the best launcher overall?

I have been using Launcher Pro Plus since I bought my ZTE Blade in June this year. Since then I've experimented with many launchers such as Go Launcher EX, ADW, Regina, QQLauncher, Zeam, etc. but I find myself coming back to Launcher Pro Plus in a few hours/days simply because it has the best combination of features and smoothness for me. I did switch to Go Launcher for almost 2-3 weeks as I was enchanted with the extra features it gave me over LPP but was too laggy in the screen transitions and screen preview mode. I thought it was because of the fact that my Blade lacks horspower even though it's OC'ed and running on the latest nightly of CM7. However I tested Go Launcher on my brother's Galaxy S Plus as well as a friend's Optimus 2X and it still didn't feel as smooth as LPP.

3 days ago, I decided to give Go Launcher a shot again and still found it extremely unsatisfactory in terms of smoothness. I don't understand why they concentrate on adding many fancy features which most people don't use but do nothing about making it smoother. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of their other products and have been using Go SMS Pro since a long time and Go Keyboard is my 2nd keybard of choice after SwiftKey X.

I've been using LPP for a long time, but recently switched to Go Launcher. I found Go had some additional features I could make use of, while both run smoothly on my phone (Bionic).

One other small bit, was that LPP would have some display issues with the app drawer, when I rotated the phone. While it isn't a big deal, this doesn't happen in Go, so I went with the more flawless and featured experience (for me).

LPP seems to fit your needs best so it would be the best one for you to use. I personally prefer ADW EX, but that's the feature set that I prefer. I think you'll find that among the most popular launchers you are going to find that there is no overall 'best', but that they are all pretty good.

No it's not the best, there is no best. I use it on my phone and prefer it. On my tablet I prefer ADW. It depends on your application, device and preference.

All you can do is try them out (which you did) then pick your favorite.

I only got LauncherPro as an alternative to the stock folder mis-mangement, but have grown to appreciate its other features, like having seven home screens.

If we're talking of smoothness, GO Launcher runs smoother on my phone than Launcher Pro, which always force closes on me for no reason as well, not to mention lagging in app drawer. I could just be unlocking my phone to see a notification that LP crashed. Its a bit dependent on the phone in some ways. Go Launcher does have more options and more easily customizeble IMO, despite it being possible to achieve the same things on both devices.

LPP was running a lot smoother on my Bionic. I decided to switch because it seems the dev has stopped updating it. I now have Go, but it force closes a lot and lags badly. I may have to go back to LPP. I like GO, but its annoying to be fighting with it. My husband's Charge is working great with GO.
Liked LPP, but don't want an outdated launcher.....

Hmm, I guess it's different strokes for different folks. The reason why I started this thread was because I found Go to be laggy not on one phone, but three phones. Even when it did not lag, it was not as smooth as LPP or ADW. Those were my observations.

For some features trump user experience. I will still be waiting for Go to work smoothly on my phone. Hope it's sooner rather later. Thanks for your replies, folks. :)

Actually, for some, features ARE the user experience. Fluidity and smoothness are irrelevant to some. For others it is the the operation of the UI and not the function that is paramount. Most people fall squarely in the middle.

Great point. I guess I should have used 'smooth transitions and scrolling' instead of User experience.
