Being new myself (rooted and Rom'd yesterday,) here's what I've found for Gingerbread ROMs,

CM7 for D2G
Motorola Droid 2: Full Update Guide - CyanogenMod Wiki
If you're not rooted yet, don't use the method on that page, there's a newer one for that portion here:
Pete's Motorola Root Tools

The other ROM is Liquid Smooth for D2G based on CM7 (I think)

With my very brief exposure to each, I like LS a little better. Seemed to have more customization options in the menus though I'm far from getting through them all. There's other Froyo ROMs, but I'm not going to bother with those myself.

Let me know if you find anything else for GB,

sKora

Maybe I'm missing something, but from what I've gathered, all the AOSP roms have GPS issues? That's a deal breaker for me so I've SBF'd to .330 and am updating to .608 now. I just plan to use the stock ROM, root it, and freeze all the crapware. I had a palm pixi before and LOVED webOS. So I think I will just live with stock until an ICS ROM get released hopefully early next year.

If I'm mistaken and there's a ROM that has the GPS fix issues addressed, I'd love to be pointed in the right direction.

And to answer your question chadzor, I can't really speak to battery life or speed. I'm still using my Ally as my phone while I get the D2G squared away.
