Root Can't boot CWM and SU permissions denied?

Okay so,

I just got my blade yesterday I bought it 2nd hand on eBay and when it came it had Superuser and I was able to boot into Clockwork.

Now, I installed ROM manager and flashed the clockwork I think, and from then on I just haven't been able to do anything, I tried 'Fix Persmissions' in ROM manager but it says:

"an error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands"

and it also happens when trying to flash CWM again.

In terminal I type 'su' and it just says permission denied.

I open universal androot and it tells me my phone is already rooted.

Whaaaaat, is going on?! I have no idea what to do, when I try booting CWM it just brings up the green android, then it goes, then it comes back and just loops.

Thank you in advance to all responses! :)

Is it the stock ROM on there? I'd the same issue, apparently the stock ROM can forget it's rooted after a reboot. If you root again, it should be fine.

Yes it is the stock ROM still, I was hoping to install a unbranded or custom ROM, would this then fix the 'forgetting' issue?

I just ran universal androot again and tried 'su' in terminal and it carried on, then it said my su binary was outdated so I clicked update but it says:

checking current install path.... fail!
failed to find currently installed su binary.
Update cannot continue

Just flashed CWM and the superuser permissions thing came up so i hit 'allow' and it said Successfully flashed clockwork, then I hit reboot into recovery, and it just bought up the green android, he went away, then booted as normal?!

AH! You're a genius! I'm now in clockwork! Thank you SO SO much, that's been puzzling me all of today but now I have it! Thank you!

Any idea's about getting it to remember it's rooted? Is it just the stock ROM that does that ?

Also, the thing about superuser failing to update ? I tried superuser update fixer but that fails too! :(

Sorry, I missed that from the other post. Yeah, it's just the stock ROM that does that, confused/annoyed the hell out of me too ;).

I wouldn't worry too much about the SU thing at the moment, if you can get into clockwork, then it shouldn't be an issue.

Are you confident on installing the ROM etc yourself?

Haha no worries! Okay then that's alright :)

Yes thanks, I've seen tutorials and I managed to get Cyanogen on my Wildfire. But are there any ROMs that you'd recommend at all ?

hi morgster.....

don't forget....

make a Nandroid backup in CMR..... so you will be able to revert to your present set-up if things go wrong..... it can happen!!

recovery_main.jpg

ClockworkMod Recovery Main Menu

Pic shows Main Menu presented in CMR...scroll down to backup and restore option.

It will be highlighted.....probably in Orange

You now need to press the Home Button to initiate the Nandroid Backup.

Nandroid Backup Restore option menu

NB: In Clockwork, you use:

  • Vol -/+ Button to scroll Down/Up.....
  • Home Button to select highlighted option.....
  • Back Button to back out of the current menu.....

Also, if you have Apps you want to keep..... no harm to do a backup with Titanium Backup.....

they should restore from Google, but only Market Apps.

and, always before flashing a new ROM.... which goes from 2. x to 2. y

do a wipe/wipe/wipe in Clockwork.

Wipe/Wipe/Wipe

Main Menu

  • Wipe 1....wipe data/factory reset
  • Wipe 2....wipe cache partition

recovery_main.jpg

Advanced and Debugging Menu

  • Wipe 3....Wipe Dalvik Cache

And make a backup of your SD card, including all files and folders, especially those hidden by system, unhide them......

then you are covered against mishap.

These are exactly the problems I've been having so I'm glad I'm not alone. I'm surprised I haven't found these solutions elsewhere but then I haven't seen these problems mentioned either but there must others experiencing them.
Anyway there are a couple of things that I'd like to ask.
My SF is a Gen 1 btw.
How do you get Clockwork 3.0.1.4 or alternatively will changing to Gen 2 solve the problem as I'm thinking of Cyanogen which you say will need Gen anyway?
Also regarding Gen 1 -> Gen 2 are there any downsides to this as I've seen several threads where people are talking about being able to revert to Gen 1 but I'm not sure why they want to do this? Oh and is this change difficult?

Many thanks for the help so far.

Hi there......

If you are Gen 1, you will need a Gen 1 compatible version of ClockworkMod Recovery, which is as you say 3.0.1.4.

If you already have ROM Manager, see below.....

Please see here, from the Simmo Thread:

If you don't have ROM Manager, see below, from Simmo Thread:

Going to Gen 2 will be necessary, if you want to flash any ROM above 2.2 (Froyo) as all 2.3 (Gingerbread) Custom ROM's are now Gen 2.

The procedure, called TFT (Total Phone Transfer) is relatively safe, but it does wipe your Phone, Internal Partitions and all Data will be deleted......

Link to Wbaw's Gen 1--> Gen 2 :

Gen1 to Gen2 TPT Upgrade - xda-developers

You would need to read and understand the risks and benefits........

There is even an all-in-one TPT to flash CM 7.1, as well as the Gen upgrade (not sure how up-to-date this is).

Also, please read the precautions to be taken, and the security checking to be done, like checking MD5, etc.......very important.

If you just do a custom gen 1----> gen 2, there are a number of good 2.3 ROM's, available on Modaco:

CM7 latest: CyanogenMod 7 (Android 2.3.7) is now GEN 2 ONLY! - Android @ MoDaCo

Blade Mix 360: Blade Mix 360(CORE-LPro-ICS)Gen2+MARKET 3.3.11+WALLPAPER PACK - Android @ MoDaCo

Moldovan, etc: [ROM][GEN1-2-3] Moldovan Mile-High-Mountain-Pie RLS6 (Android 2.3.5) - Android @ MoDaCo

AFAIK, there are no downsides to upgrading to Gen 2.......

peeps go back to Gen 1, when returning a phone to Orange, and I think there is something about going back to Gen 1, before going Gen 3!!!!!
