Root SholesMod Updater .08 and 2.0.4

For those just waking up Sholes has posted SM Updater .008 (new interface) and Bitchin Bagel 2.0.4RC1 - so far no problems (I have not noticed any functional changes yet but will dive in a little more when I completely wake up this morning).

cant wait for a changelog

Same here. I think I am starting to sleepflash - like sleepwalking but flashing Sholes roms with my eyes closed instead. I didn't wait for the change log but so far all is well. I do like the new cleaner interface in the updater.

Just loaded it and it seems a little snappier.. I like it. I just wonder what the rc stands for? I have a feeling were going to see some more 2.1 stuff coming soon with all these ROM's popping up on alldroid.

Release Candidate - usually the step between a Beta and an official release

IIRC any changes in the third number are just small bug fixes. New features are only implemented in the first number and maybe second.

Yeah I read that before.. but bug fixes are alwasy nice! :D

RC = Release candidate? Okay, gotcha. So maybe they're going to be releasing something big soon!

Developers differ, but by the time a release hits the release candidate stage it is pretty much the final release. There is a feature freeze, ie no new features will be added at all and only small bug fixes will be addressed. In other words, the RC that you have now is probably really close to what the final will be.

I checked the Repository link on the Sholes page, then the ROMs link. Seems they have added some of t3hSteve's kernel improvements.

Can anyone running 2.0.4RC1 confirm this?

Downloading it now. Bandwidth is pretty sluggish this morning for them. 33 kb/s

Edit: Switched to Wifi, now at 335 kb/s. Looks like my 3G is crap this morning.

On initial boot download manager was hung up, fc or wait...

Rebooted. Voice search fc or wait. Note: Didn't try to open voice search, it just did this on its own. Same with the download manager above.

Just hit "wait," and they didn't come back.

Not really noticing anything different so far. They offered a maps FC fix in install if you were having that problem, which I never did.

Running at 1000, stable as always.

The kernel changes by t3hSteve did not make it into this release either, as my keyboard has returned to its old, laggy ways.

Time to load up the Steve's kernel...

I might revert back to 2.0.3. I'm getting the force close prompt on reboot every time. Goes away after I wait, but gets me thinking something isn't loading right.

That's strange, because I upgraded from 2.0.3 also, and have no FC issues.

Still, I was hoping Steve's kernel was being implemented in this version. I just had to take 10 mins to reapply Steve's kernel, and then the improved audio libraries for my equalizer.

Are you loading Steve's kernel on the sholes rom? Thought this was a no-no?

Yeah, I dunno why everyone was running around Alldroid yelling that out. I posted a screen capture that plainly showed it was quite possible to run Steve's kernel over Sholes 2.0.3 (and it works on 2.0.4 as well). Prior to using Steve's kernel, I was using Tas' 1000m over Sholes as well.

I think people at AD are a bit Sholes biased, so they spread that misinformation.

Notice the kernel version and of course, the ROM version.

what is Steve's Kernal?
